Hi, all!
Has anyone suffered from this problem? I (and other users) have often tried to access my sites from outside, only to get error pages (leading me to suspect a server crash). On returning home, I fire up the monitor and nudge the mouse and hear disc-drive start-up noises and when the screen lights up the server has NOT crashed and functions perfectly!
I have a suspicion it's actually the box, not abyss, which is the problem. Any suggestions? Power-save features causing hiccups??? A fix anyone? |

Hi jmc--
I suspect you are right and your computer has gone into sleep mode or something after so many minutes.
I'd shut off the power saving funtions for my monitor.

Your settings for power should be this! You can change the monitor
option to fit your needs but after im done using my computer , I
just turn off my monitor manually. Its best to leave it off. 8)

Thanks, guys, for the suggestions.
@TRUST : That's exactly what I do: Abyss is running, on leaving for work in the a.m., I switch off the monitor, leaving the box running.
I've adjusted my "power settings" to those you suggested... let's see if it makes any difference.
Hmmm... actually... I might just make the Abyss upgrade too, while I'm at it! Been a while since I've checked out here... the "crash protection" sounds mighty cool!
Cheers,
John Mc |

If you upgrade , use version 1.2.2.2 , its the best
one available right now , the other will fail on a few
php scripts , Im glad I fixed your problem ! |

1) You didn't mention your operating system. Are you running NT, XP, or Win2K, and running Abyss as a normal application, and have multiple users, and become logged off as a user after a period of time? I'm not sure if any of this is relevant, but you might want to run Abyss as a service in this case, via FireDaemon Lite (http://www.firedaemon.com/).
2) I reboot every week or so, and had a similar problem. I never could figure it out (and I run XP Home and Abyss as a service) -- for all I know, it could be ISP-related. In any event, I personally solved that problem -- i.e., I don't know whether this will work for you -- by restarting Abyss once a day via a scheduler and a program I wrote for that and other (log-splitting) purposes. See "abyss-restarter" at:
