Using the statistics utility, it seems that every time someone goes to my web page, it shows up as 6 hits. For instance, I went to my site and then refeshed it 4 times. For that it shows 30 hits, 25 HTML hits and 24 not modified hits. Can anyone explain this to me?

Keep-Alive Requests: if you have it at 5 , the server will show as 5 requests per connection because your browsers trie's to load everything at once , their could be one connection loading images and one loading html , its all about serving that many request at a given time , if you want only 2 requests going on your server at the same time , put it at 2 , I leave mine on 8. I think this is the cause of this , please correct me if im wrong.

jclick6782,

Your page seems to contain 5 images (or music files). So the browser will send 1+5 requests (hits) to the browser when you load the page.
But since the browser stores the files it loads in a cache, it will ask the server (for every file): "is file X on the server newer than file X in my cache"
If this isn't the case, the server just replies "not modified" and the browser uses the file in its cache and saves the bandwidth (that's the caching negotiation feature).

this hit stats baffles me at times....and its only loading one image and the html page ....i think it gives 3 hits instead of 2. the more your refresh the more hits ....instead of an actual page hit ....if you hit the page once ...nomatter how many images etc...should mean once ....and no more.

The browser must always check for the freshness of your images. Imagine that you update an image, would you like to see the old until the next restart? What about counter generated images?
