Hi there,
I am using Abyss a while now and i really like it.
My question is: Is there a way to stop the server from broadcasting its own specs?
Like the version and so on. (as seen in the perlscript env.pl)
I run everything whitout a firewall 24/7 and would like to keep it that way.
Hope this makes sense because i am not english.
Thnx in adv.

B.t.w. it runs on winxp |

Well in a way it doesnt, a firewall will not prevent your server from functioning but rather protect it from being attacked, abused, vandalized or even deleted and will help prevent people from using your server as a relay or to infect other users by placing them on your system etc, a whole host of things.
But at the end of the day, its your system. |

You're running XP *without* a firewall ? 8O After all the RPC exploits and worms that came out recently, you might as well just delete all your files yourself before someone else does...
Without modifying Abyss's code I can't see any way to stop it announcing it's version. This is only a security risk if any problems are found in Abyss though - I'd still much rather be running Abyss than IIS. |
