Hi I'm a bit of a newbie and i dinny have a clue whats goin on.
Firstly i've installed MySQL which was fine, then i installed PHP, which was fine too. And now i've got Abyss, i think it's installed ok, but the computer i'm using isn't connected to the internet so i couldn't carry out the bit of the installation when it directs you to the net. Is this a problem, is there a way round it??
Also how do i get MySQL to use the server, i know it has to use the PHP.
Sorry for being very new and a bit slow, I'm using Windows 2000 professional if that helps.
Cheers
Blair

If your browser asks you to connect to the Internet when browsing http://127.0.0.1 or http://127.0.0.1:9999, do the following:
Open Internet Explorer, go to the Tools menu, select Internet Options, select the Connections Tab, then select the "Dial Whenever a network connection is not present". This should solve your problem.
Abyss can run without any Internet connection. _________________ Support Team

Hi
Thanks for the responce, but i'm not sure you got my meaning. The computer isn't connected to the internet at all, no modem, no phones lines etc. The laptop just sits on it's own, and i've no paticuler desire to connect it to the internet.
Why i hear you ask set up a server then. I'm just trying to figure out how i'd set a server and design a website in dreamweaver using PHP to queary a MySQL database. (which is easier said than done by the way).
So the problem is that the computer is never going to connect to the web.
Is that a problem?

Blair, this is not a problem. You can still run Abyss Web Server and MySQL on a computer with no connection to a network or the Internet. Your IP will be 127.0.0.1 (which means "this computer") and you'll enjoy web serving/database testing without any problem.
Please read "Getting Started" in the user's guide of Abyss Web Server for more information. _________________ Support Team
