:D Hi new here ....First of all I have xp SP2...running freeby Abyss X1..which I am really impressed with and will step up soon...
I have had 8 weeks of Apache and couldn't get anything talking PHP/SQL..on this Abyss everything talks and the tutorials are fantastic and after I found it it took 2 hours to set everything up ,
but now I've lost the plot with my website....

What I am after is First of all is the ability to send Email notification to me from like a rego page (database works)or.....but at the same time send out a log in verification such as this forum...

I am behind a router at this stage using DynDNS.. and getting out great..

Should I go for something like fake sendmail - or go the way I want with a proper SMTP and POP3 Imap server...If the later which one for an experimental old novice..
 The other thing I am looking for is good documentation easy to understand like the tutorials and a starting point on where to put the first installation.. Ghee I don't want much...

:?: Thanks :?:
Fred

hMailServer is a good one to begin with. Its simple and easy to use. You will likely need to set up an SMTP relayer to use your ISP's e-mail server as your broadband will likely not send the mail to all recipients successfully.

The same goes for recieving e-mails as well. You will not be able to do this properly if you are on standard broadband. Why? You need an SPF record (or a rDNS) for it to work properly (I won't go into how it works). But you should be able to send mail fine if thats all you wish to do.

hMailServer is a server program like Abyss, it needs to be run seperately in its own program space.
