|
|
Alright, I'll start out by saying that I am trying to get Abyss X1 to work with Ubuntu 6.10. I'm extremely new to Linux, but I've been playing around with Abyss X1 on Windows XP for a little while now. My question is... How do I get the bloody thing to work with Ubuntu. I downloaded the Linux Package and unpacked it. Then read how to install it. After reading... I think what I am suppose to do is enter the following
Code: | sudo tar xzfm /home/waynemcdaniel/Desktop/abyssws/ |
If this is correct, then I think I'm on the right track. If I am wrong, I beg you to please help me. After I entered that I get an error.
Quote: | tar: /home/waynemcdaniel/Desktop/abyssws/: Cannot read: Is a directory
tar: At beginning of tape, quitting now
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now
gzip: stdin: unexpected end of file
tar: Child returned status 2
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors |
Is the tar xzfm a form of unpacking? Am I doing this wrong or is there something I am missing? If anyone can offer a bit of advice I would greatly appreciate it. I would like to request that if you are able to help, please try to be pretty detailed. As I said before, I am extremely new to Linux.
Also, Do I need to be running Ubuntu Server? I guess not since I'm not sure if you can save files that way. Aye... I'm confused.... |

tar is a form of unpacking, the letters xzfm are parameters, x is extract, m updates the modified time, z is to use gzip and f is to use a file
Try the following post, it tells u the basic steps to install abyss and get it to run on a port <1024, it also shows to other posts which I find are helpful

waynemcdaniel,
Code: | sudo tar xzfm /home/waynemcdaniel/Desktop/abyssws/ |
The second parameter is wrong. It refers to a directory while it should refer to the .tgz file you have downloaded from our site. _________________ Support Team
