|
|
I have installed the server and it is running on port 80. Before this I was using port 8080 . When everything is ok and index.html is displayed well , the problem began. When I click on the icon for ' show console ' i was taken to url http://127.0.0.1 and the index page is displayed instead of the 'console'. Please help me to get back the display of the console for me to explore its use. |

By default the console runs on port 9999, so http://127.0.0.1:9999 should get you there. If not, look in the Abyss window and it should say something like "The console is up and running on port xxxx" where xxxx is the port number. Replace 9999 with the number defined at xxxx to get you to your console.
Hope this helps and that you understand it. _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)

Everything started well before I tried to take back port 80 prom IIS to give it to abyss server. I use a port mapper to 'close' some port unknown to me which I as a newbie regarded as strange . I want to know whether I have accidently shut down port 9999 for the console. Can I opened it back and give it to console . Can i know console alternative port.
As for your advise , I cant find any ip address at all on the icon running below the screen . Even the short cut in the menu show only start up configuration and that all. I dont want to uninstall and install back the server because today is the first time in my life history I got my own server running when i tested it outside. Can you respond to that. |

Go to this menu and select:
Enter a console port of your choice. I recommend the defaut of 9999. I use 10000.
Then click OK and the server will restart. The go to the console port you entered. _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)

I tried to set up camera , ftp , php and sql with the quidance of your website. If I have any problem I will ask you. Anyway I am a teacher trainer here in local teacher training college. We have twinning programme with canterbury university. I am IT trainer. I just wish to explore the most of this abyss server for teaching and learning for the use of schools in malaysia.

it looks like you have to setup the permissions for that ftp user _________________

Create a new folder, eg.
\htdocs\new_folder_for_students
Then make a new user in the FTP server and give it the "Home folder" of the "new_folder_for_students". They cannot access anything unless it is in that folder. _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)

Thanks, it works great.I tried it just now. i am going to use it in my class this semester.
Another thing is If I want to make my student submission of ppt file easy ,
is it possible for the student to log in into a web page , and upload it without filezilla client. Or if uploading through web is not possible , can one single user name be used by students to upload at the same time?. |

One username can be used by an unlimited number of people provided you do not put any limits in place.
You will need to find a php file upload script to upload via a webpage. _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)

Thanks for the advise.
I am in my college now and I try to access ftp server at home using filezilla client. I have tried it at home using ftp address 192.168.x.x, it worked fine. When I tried to establish my connection with ftp server at home using no-ip address I got this message.
Error: Could not connect to server
Status: Waiting to retry...
Status: Resolving IP-Address for serxxxx.no-ip.biz
Status: Connecting to 124.13.xxx.xxx:21...
Status: Connection established, waiting for welcome message...
Error: Could not connect to server
How can I troubleshoot this problem
Thanks |

Check with the network administrator to check they haven't blocked port 21, the port used for FTP as this is common practice in schools and colleges.
Also check you have port forwarding for port 21 enabled in your router. _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)

Actually i test the setting of the filezilla server at home, in my personal server. I am behind router and i have done 'port forwarding at port 21 for ftp.
I am confused about the setting of filezila router for passive mode with my no-ip address. if i want other to access my ftp server what should i choose
1. Default
2. Use the following ip
3. retrieve external ip address from.
where my no-ip address should be entered.
Another thing is, below all that there is
*use custom port range..what should i write there ?
thanks |

That's it.
I think my problem has to do with the router too.
I have no idea how to change settings .... a friend helped me out months ago and now he's living in another state.
I guess I should do some reading now. |
