They are showing fine for all our accounts. Have you changed something in your browser or have you maintained an forum session open for a long time?

rrinc,

Out of curiosity, what was the cause of that problem?

I'm not sure, especially since now it doesn't work again...

Nothing has changed on our site or on the forum. So the problem is certainly caused by something on your side which is messing with the cookies (since this is what is used by the forum to "remember" what you've seen the last time).

Have you deleted your Internet cache? Do you have some sort of anonymizer or a firewall which filters/manipulates cookie in the background?

I've never had any problems. I only get it when I close my browser and the session is effectively ended clearing the unread posts part of the cookie. phpBB should use database side topic sessions so the database knows when its been read. I find it annoying that sometimes I come back to find no topics to look at when I actually haven't read some of them.

We've updated PhpBB today. If the problem persists, please let us know.

I really wish you would switch to a forum that remembers what a user has and hasn't seen. I don't really like phpBB, I prefer SMF, IPB, vBulletin, also MyBB is a nice little forum I've noticed lately. I really wish you would change it, but I hate to suggest your efforts be used somewhere other than Abyss Web Server. What plans do you have for the future of this forum? Weren't you saying you'd be making your own forum software?..you might start with branching from one of the smaller forums out there (MyBB, PunBB, etc)

There are future plans to change the board software away from phpBB but nothing has been heard for a long while on this.

rrinc,

Our motivation is to create a "forum" which is conforming to our users way of using a forum:
* we've noticed that search on most forums is bad. So we're going to address that problem to help users locate the information they look for without forcing them to guess the right keywords.
* A karma (expertise) ranking is also required.
* An automatic anti-spam system is also needed (something similar to junk filters on mail clients).
* A better "you've got a reply" email notification system.
* A simple interface (ą la PunBB)
* A simplified registration procedure.

The above goals were suggested by our 5 years of experience running this forum and by users feedback. Of course, if you've any suggestion, please don't hesitate to post it here so that we can discuss it with you.

Better moderation tools would help too. Also a merge topic function might come in handy. Obviously, keep the functions phpBB has as they all serve some good use.

Sure. We're not going to remove what members and mods became used to with that PhpBB forum.
