|
|
Im having a problem with my phpbb forums
my ip is dynamic, so when it changes I have to reinstall the forums
I was wondering if there was some way to fix that
1) making a static ip just for the web server, meanwhile my regular ip stays.
2) forcing my ip to a specific ip
3) changing the settings so the forums stick to the ip so it doesn't need to be reinstalled
other posts did not seem helpful. I did see topics about no-ip.com and others, but I don't think those will help with my forum problem
my isp doesn't allow static ip addresses
is there something I can do with the ip I install the phpbb forums with in the install settings? |

Why would you have to reinstall phpBB every time your IP changes?
There's no need for that. If your IP changes, just access the forum thru localhost
to access the phpBB Administration Panel and make the changes.
The best thing for you to do is just go to http://www.no-ip.com and register an account.
Follow the directions and get the dynamic update client running. Then, go into your
phpBB Administration Panel > Configuration and put that name into the Domain
Name field. Now, everytime your IP changes, you'll still be able to go to your forum. |

Only problem with that is people will experience 404's because of the way phpbb works. I found a way around it but other people might not be able to. Like you say, use no-ip. _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)

OK. I just tested an installation on my server. You are correct.
The only way for me to access the admin panel was to use phpmyadmin
and make changes in phpbb_config table.
Still, that was easier than reinstalling the whole thing. ;) |

There are many people that have phpBB installed on their server using no-ip and they don't have a static IP. ;)
EDIT - I just saw your NVM. Glad you got it working. ;) |

I have a dynamic IP and I have never had a problem with what she is talking about. For the server name I put in the dyndns domain that I have and it works fine. _________________

I've never used phpBB forums, so I'm clueless as to the problem.
But here is an idea I suggested to someone else with a dynamic IP --> http://www.aprelium.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=58878#58878
When your IP changes (is that an internal IP address or external IP address???), just change the custom variable to your new IP address. _________________ Stephen

I,ve tride with //localhost but i get the following
STATUS:> Connecting to FTP server 89.212.76.33:21 (ip = 89.212.76.33)...
ERROR:> The remote host actively refused the attempt to connect to it.
1) Verify that the destination server name or IP address is correct
2) Verify that the connection port number is correct (under Site Settings | Type tab).
3) The remote server may be temporarily or permanently inaccessible (try again later).
4) Verify that you have chosen the right protocol (SSH2, SSL, FTP, etc.) and have setup all required options for that protocol.
5) Verify that the destination IP address and port numbers are correct.
6) The remote server may be refusing multiple connections from the same client. Try using only one connection thread when connecting to this particular server (Site Settings | Options).
7) Try pinging the address.
8) If you are using a router, verify the router is up and running (check by pinging it and then ping an address outside of the router).
9) Do a traceroute to the destination to verify all routers along the connection path are operational.
10) Verify that your subnet mask is setup properly.
11) Verify that your local software or hardware firewall is not blocking outbound connections originating from CuteFTP.
12) Verify that your anti-virus software is not at fault (try disabling it).
Ufff... what to do? |

bkkranj, are you sure you have the right FTP address?
It doesn't seem there's an FTP server at that address.
