I don't get it, I've tried port forwarding (Actually using a Virtual Server since I don't have port forwarding options), I've tried DMZ, and nothing I do seems to let people outside my lan connect.
My External IP doesn't work, only my LAN one, which is strange.
I've even tried disabling all of my firewalls with no luck.
I've made sure my IP is set correctly as well...
Whenever someone goes to my site it times out. |

have you tried another port? Some ISP's block access to port 80, try 81.
A search would have given you this answer :( _________________ Olly |

Got it working somehow, I have no idea how though, but after messing with many things it just all of a sudden started working not too long ago. :) |

Maybe your site and the console is set up as the same port? Try changing the console's port to something else like 10000. |

Here is the deal... My comp is connected directly to my dsl modem. my internal ip is 192.168.1.43, gateway 192.168.1.1. of course, no one on the outside can see in. here is the deal though, i cant find port forwarding, the best i can find is a user defined firewall rules.... that gives me a strange scripting language the i'm not familiar with, and doesnt make much sense...
title [ Security Level 1 IN rules ]
begin
Rules
pass all
AddresDrop
drop from addr 0.0.0.0 >> done, alert 4 [ 0.0.0.0 Source IP Address]
pass protocol udp, to port 53 >> done
pass protocol udp, from port 53 >> done
drop protocol icmp >> alert 4 [ICMP Message To WAN IP]
end
its gotta be somewhere in there right? my server is configured for port 80... i use dungeonmasteronline.game-host.org and dmonline.sytes.net as my names, i can hit both from the inside, but not the outside.... |

I'm not sure, but I don't think you even have an internal IP if your not using a router.
Or maybe 217.****** is your internal IP? I can't recall the possible ranges of an internal IP, and have no idea if you have one if you don't have a router. If you do, more info on it (Brand, Model) would be helpful. |

sounds like you use a pass through on your router... your internal ip is what shows for your IP address..... it will probably say something like ppp adapter, or ppoe, or something like that... do you have a built in cable or dsl modem? you'll have to configre your xp fire wall as well as any other security softwares you have running.... also, you'll have to choose a port to use... depending on your isp, port 80 will be blocked..... |

Thank you very much, TRUSTpunk! I'm going to add you to my MSN now and IM you. It's probably just a firewall problem. I gave it permission when the window popped up, but I probably need to create a more customized access rule. _________________ LT |

Ok, I set up port fowarding, but when I go to my IP address, the router control panel shows up instead of my website! Help please.
BTW, no that URL doesn't work for me. And then I tried going to my IP:80, hoping that would work (I can't remember my IP right now). Still came up as the control panel. |

The topic title currently right under this sticky one might have been an idea to read...

It wasn't vague, it answered exactly the question you just raised above.
If you see your router configuration page when using your internet IP, your router does not support loopback. You will not be able to access your site via the internet IP. Visitors will.
You haven't even stated what model router you have, so how you can call the other topic vague, I don't know - unless you signed up two different accounts just to ask the same question... _________________

I can't view mine either. I have a Comtrend CT-301 ADSL modem, Belkin Wireless G Router (2 computers connected), WinXP Home SP2, internal IP: 192.168.2.2, external IP: 142.167.57.80, Windows Firewall. When I go into the router config page there is no port forwarding but virtual server instead. When I go into that I get this [img=http://img122.imageshack.us/img122/3886/configscreen3bu.th.gif] (I am in fact using Windows... the scroll bar comes from an Opera skin). Now if I add "Web Server (HTTP)" (which is in the drop down list), and enter port 80 for inbound port and 80 for private port I get an error saying: Quote: | 192.168.2.1:
The public port number can not be 80.Because it will have a collision with the Wireless Router web service. | If I change inbound port to 81, it does nothing also. Can anyone help me? |

Morprok,
If the Comtrend modem is what is connected to the phone line, then you should configure that device for port forwarding (and not the Belikn which is behing it and part of your local network). _________________ Support Team

If any one out there can help that would be appreciated. Your reply is very help full for me. Thanks again.

i'm using No-ip.com for DNS service.
my ip is 192.168.1.4
I've change port 80 to 21208
I've already forwarded port 80 to 21208
i'm using NETGEAR router
When i try to access to my website, it show error 403 Forbidden.

I'm new to the abyss web server program. I was hoping to use it to host some of my files. So far I managed to configure the console to the point where I can see the hosting page, but when it comes to other computers, it just can't be seen. The web server FAQ helped alittle bit, but I was still having problems so I joined this forum. I've read most of the posts on this thread and alot of helpful information have been given to me. However, I still can't get this page to show up on other computers other than my own.
Here's my basic information, hopefully someone with experience can use it:
-Running: Windows XP
-Router: Linksys Wireless G
[Port forward info]
-IP Address: 192.168.1.105
-External IP Address: http://158.83.140.23/
[What it should take you to]
Now here's my console configuration info:
Thanx in advance.
If all doesn't go well, I'll just see if I can turn off the router whenever I'm using Abyss and switch back when I'm using a portable device. I only use the damn thing for PSP Radio anyways, lol. |

sorry for the long link hope it works for you, but iam afraid your router wont :( unless iam reading the wrong FAQ's
You need a router that allows IP passthrough, screen shot your routers menus and we'll have a look but I dont think this one is going to work for you...... |

Warlord,
The link provied by Marty_ does not apply to you since your external IP (the IP assigned by your provider) is not private.
We suggest reading http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Linksys/WRT54GS/HTTP.htm to learn how to configure port forwarding for Abyss Web Server (or any web server) on your Linksys WRT54GS.
If the external connection problem persists, try changing the port to 8000 (some ISPs block port 80). _________________ Support Team

Thank you, I'll check it out.
Edit: I can't create a static ip unfortunately. When I made one, my internet connection cut off. I'll just use Abyss without a router and see how that goes. Thanks for all the help and support. |

Your router does not support loopback. So using your external IP from inside your network isn't going to work as you expect it. It will either cause an error or you'll get the router setup page.
The external IP access is only valid from people outside your network. Try using a proxy service (see http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/Proxying_and_Filtering/Hosted_Proxy_Services/Free/CGI_Proxy/ ) to test the access of your URL (with the external IP). _________________ Support Team

This is happening to me but now that I forwarded both udp and tcp ports 80, it
just times out without connecting instead of getting a blank page.
Otherwise, without the ports forwarded, the page loads but there's a completely blank page. It works when I do localhost but when I type in my IP or my DNS address it displays a blank page. Totally blank. I even did http://74.225.86.178/index.html; blank. I have a game server which I'm trying to host files on. I tried to do http://74.225.86.178/cstrike; loads, but BLANK.
Please help. This is getting aggrivating. At least it's easier than Apache... I'm gonna keep trying but eventully ill give up. |

You have a dynamic IP. It will change each time your modem is reset or when your ISP forces an IP change. _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)

1) You enter your IP address and you cannot see your website.
2) You can only see your website from "localhost."
3) Others cannot see your website, but you can.
To date, I estimate over 50 topics have been started with the same problem. I hope to solve your problems right here, so you do not have to start a new thread.
Problem: You/Others cannot view your website.
This applies to: All people who have a hardware router.
Solution: Port forwarding.
When someone enters your IP, the request gets sent to your router. Normally, your router would just ignore/block the request, because it cannot do anything with it. We are going to take all requests to your IP address, and forward them specifically to the computer with your website.
What to do:
1) Get the Internal IP address of the computer running Abyss Web Server.
If you run Windows 95, 98, ME: Start>Run>Type "winipcfg" and select your network adapter from the dropdown list. Your IP address either looks like "192.168.x.x" or "10.0.x.x"
If you run Windows 2000, XP, Server 2000, or Server 2003: Go to the command prompt and type "ipconfig" (which will display your Internal IP under the IP Address category).
EDIT: To get your Internal IP, just download my handy little batch file: 95/98/ME or 2000/XP/2003. Download using IE.
2) Go to your router configuration. Usually, you can type "192.168.1.1" or "192.168.0.1" in your browser to bring it up.
Helpful tip: After completing step 1, use the same digit(s) in the third block of your IP in step 2. Example: If your IP address from step 1 was "192.168.254.10," then use 254 to find your router (192.168.254.254). If your IP address was "192.168.1.10," then use "192.168.1.1" (taking the third block of numbers in your IP address, and putting them in the third and fourth place in step 2).
3) If a password prompt comes up, try different combinations of the words "admin" and "administrator." Most linksys routers use "admin" for the password and no username.
4) Once in the configuration, look for an option that says "forwarding." Once you have found it, under port number, type "80." Under IP address, type the IP address you found in step 1 (192.168.x.x). For TCP/UDP, make sure at least TCP is selected.
5) Go to www.whatismyip.com or www.aprelium.com/ip/ to find your External IP address. After configuring port forwarding, type that IP address into your browser. Your website should show up!

This is for all the people who want to have a domain name (www.myname.com) instead of a numerical IP address (66.212.51.99) for your website.
Your options:
"Dot TK" - This can give you a www.yourname.tk for your website. All you do is signup, and forward your domain name to your IP address.
Note: The majority of users have a "Dynamic IP." This means, periodically, your IP address changes. You will have to go in manually and change your IP when this happens.
"No-IP" - This popular service lets you have yourname.no-ip.com for free; along with some other choices (such as yorname.mybiz.com, etc.). For those of you with a Dynamic IP (which is mostly everyone), No-IP provides a client you can download that automatically updates your URL whenever your IP changes.
A Real TLD (Top Level Domain, such as .com, .net, and .org) - Let me first say, there is absolutely NO WAY to get a free TLD. Whatever the deal, you will eventually have to open your wallet.
There are many providers to choose from. I like to use 000domains.com. For $13.50 per year, they offer every service you will ever need. I know people have found cheaper ones, but this is just my preference.
How to associate your TLD with your IP Address: The majority of companies whom sell TLDs do not offer DNS services (ways to associate your domain with your IP address). For this, I reccomend a free service called "ZoneEdit." To use this, you must associate your domain with ZoneEdit's namesevers. They show you how to do that on their website, www.zoneedit.com. For those of you who have dynamic IPs, there is a list of 3rd-party applications in their FAQ.
Everyone has their own preferences.
Hope that helped. Post with any further qurstions you may have. |
Can you add www.freedomain.co.nr to the list with www.dot.tk ? _________________ Where have i been? School got heck-tick, had to move half way around the state, then back... and then i had to change jobs, so iv been away for a while :P |
