Here's what's going on. My server has been online for about 3 days now with no probs. Just yesterday I was notified that the server wasnt working. I looked into it and it said "listening error". I immediately googled it pertaining to Abyss Web server and have checked what other people did.
-I do not have the IIS MS server running so it's not that.
-I have the current version (2.5) of Abyss installed.
-I have set the configuration to MANUAL START UP and AUTOMATIC START up upon USER LOGIN. Neither of these fixed the issue.
After I reset the computer my server runs fine for about maybe 20min or so (not sure how long really) then after this period i get the listening error.
I find it really funny that it was working for 2-3days without any setting changes and then this happens.
Any suggestions on what else i can try??
Running XP (sp2)
Abyss 2.5
im running the webserver on port 8081 |

Google "listening error Abyss web server" and you'll see links that point to this forum where the creators of the Abyss server talk about disabling IIS and the old version of Abyss.
I guess ISS conflicts with Abyss and I guess there might have been a bug in the old version of Abyss that would give users this error. |

Listening error means that abyss cannot listen to port 80. This may be because something else is using that port
Are you using Skype? Because skype uses port 80 for some reason.
Can you still access the console? _________________ Anthony R

To my knowledge nothing is using port 80. My ISP blocks port 80 so i would never use that port. And no, no Skype here. I can still access the console. |

You could download and run CurrPorts to see what is using port 80.

thanks!
I'll try that app tonight.
I reinstalled the abyss and got it running yesterday on the port that i wanted (8081). However, a aprox 7pm lastnight (several hrs after it was running just fine) it gave me the listening error. And this happend when no changes were made to the system. It seems that the night before this error occurred at approximately the same time. Coincidence? who knows.
Right now I have it running on port 99. I'll wait to see tonight if i get the listening error. If i do, i'll run that application that you suggested.[/quote] |

Thank you for mentioning Skype so many years ago. I wasted a lot of time thinking that it was a new copy of Kaspersky that I had just installed. :) |
