Beign a host is no easy task... but if you want to give it a try here is one of the best scripts around

http://www.cyberscript.net/products/easyhost_free/

It's a starter script and you will need to get familiar with cgi and install Perl on your machine. As far as ftp is concerned, well guild ftp is pretty good... but this hosting script allows the user to upload from their web browsers which is pretty good for starters...

Hope this is of some help, you'll also want to offer your users FTP and possibly an e-mail addresss, so info follows :D

FTP Server: GuildFTPd, definatley the best free FTP server around.

Mail Server: Don't know, looking for one myself :D

Good luck!, and let us know how things go...

I tried out easyhost a long time ago but it never worked out for me... Then I thought to myself hell I must be crazy to try and host other peoples web pages, especially for free... Anyway I did get to manage some problems easyhost gave me by converting I believe it was cgi extensions to pl extensions...

Anyway if easyhost gives you a problem try converting cgi extensions to pl... See what happens

really wierd... Every time I tried accessing it I would see nothing but code... But when I changed the cgi to pl I at least got through the installation... But once that was over I ran out of luck :(

I think I might try it again for the same reason you put it TV... For Family and when bandwidth begins to get effected I'll give them the boot 8)

haha, I never thought of that... I remember changing cgi to pl because I heard somewhere its almost the same thing... That is the reason why I changed it...

Damn, you might be on the money with that answer... I'll try it again and let you know :)

Yeah I remember it being a piece of cake when I changed cgi to pl but this time I did as you recommended and simply added cgi to the interpreters list for perl... It works just as it did before and now when I look at it I now remember why I dropped using it...

It lacks documentation and I believe new users can only be assigned by me... I haven't found an easy to understand sign up page that leaves me out of it :(

Anyway its not on the top priority list or something but I just wanted to tell you you're suggestion worked out perfect... Thanks for the input on adding cgi to the interpreters field :)

You're very welcomed!!!
And yes it is a VERY basic script, that lacks automation features, but as I said, If you want to give someone you know a website well it works!

That was me that was running the pal's free webhosting
I decided to stop accepting accounts because of abuse
of the service and anyways it was free and not a big deal to
terminate. Those that had an account that did not abuse it
still have an account on my server its just not publicly offered anymore
to others, so if you try to go to the site you will get a DNS error.

Actually the scripts that I had running that specific site
I wrote in solid php myself. I just took chunks of code from other php and cgi scripts and created what I needed. -
