Yes, Port Redirection is the one you want.
For field one:
Service Name: HTTP
Protocol: TCP
Public Port: 80
Private IP: 192.168.1.10
Private Port: 80
Active: Yes (Checked)
That should about do it. _________________ Bienvenidos! |

If your connection goes
( INTERNET ) -> Alcatel Speedtouch -> Draytek -> Your LAN
and the Alcatel modem has it's own IP/configuration screens with port forwarding options, you will need to set the Speedtouch to forward port 80 to the Draytek and the Dratek to forward what it receives on 80 to the correct PC. |

Leave the 0.0.0.0 in the outside IP box, put the IP of your router (192.168.1.1) in the inside IP box...
Note that as you're using port 80, it may appear not to be working when in fact your ISP is blocking port 80. You may also have some problems accessing your site by internet IP from your own network, but we'll cross those bridges later :D |

talking about bridges i'm halfway on the golden gate ;)
anyways when i'm filling in those settings on the speedtouch all goes fine,
as long as i don't touch the apply button...
when i press apply it can't find tha page and i have to reset the modem :(
Is there any way to establisch a connection on another port,
and what settings do i need then :S
I have these settings now:
Abyss server:
Port: 8080 (doh!)
Draytek router:
Service name: http
protocol: TCP
Public port: 8080
Private IP: 192.168.1.10
Private port: 8080
Active: yes (checked)
Speedtouch ADSL modem:
Protocol: TCP
Outside IP: 213.84.215.159 (doesnt establisch a connection when 0.0.0.0 is filled in)
Outside port: 8080
Inside IP: 192.168.1.1
Inside port: 8080
Thing still doesn't work... anyone?
The ADSL modem works fine though, as long as i don't mention port 80 :P |

Try changing it to a non-standard port; as ISPs also block 8080. Use something above 1024-maybe 21208. _________________ Bienvenidos! |

Read it again. It doesn't get much simpler than how it's explained above, so if you can't follow it or can't be bothered to explain which bits you don't understand, you should probably stick to free webspace like Geocities... |

Hmm, ususally that is the address of the router. Type that into the browser and see what you get.
Also, what kind of router do you have? _________________ Bienvenidos! |

My IP (I think) is 192.168.1.1
My Port number I am using is 123.
I typed http://192.168.1.1:123 into the browser and the website I have inside htdocs opened up.
I am not behind a router at all. We have broadband though, maybe thats of some relevance....
Thanks for helping me, Timmins |

How many computers do you have (how many of them have the same internet account), and how many ports are on the back of your Broadband modem? _________________ Bienvenidos!

Can you be specific?
192.168.1.1 can be either a Gateway/Modem/Router etc.... Whatever that maybe, can you access it or login to it? If your answer is NO and have multi-port on that device, then you simply can not have any server on your LAN side to listen for any incoming request.
When that device [router/modem/gateway etc] cannot be access to tell it to forward certian port to certain IP on your LAN side, then that device simply ignore any incoming request since it do not know what to do with it but to drop it.
Assume that device is a modem that provide to you from your ISP. Then I would generally assume it is a modem/gateway device and also assume it on DHCP [NAT] mode, accord to your LAN IP. You will need to contact your ISP to reconfigue [if possible] to allow all port open. Also check with them if you can configure yourself on that device. Otherwise, have them open all port and get a router to control your in/outbound request and other setting. Then you can setup any type of server. Otherwise, I believed this is a deadend since your modem/gateway is the obsticle. _________________ CapFusion,... |

|
|
I have followed the instructions in detail for setting up my router.
I have a Linksys BEFW11S4, connedted to a cable modem, the computer that is hosting the server is connected directly to the router.
I have setup port forwarding to port 80 and still did not work.
I have used the No-IP service to set up a redirect, I can't access my server still.
What am I doing wrong? Is there something else that needs to be set up on my router.
I did try to set DMZ to my Server computer. but that did not help either.
Any suggestions?

I used the following web site to check, http://www.psi-rho.com/dsltools/test.php?type=www the site told me that port 80 does not seem to be open.
I tried using both my host name as well as the host IP address, both gave me the same message.
My host name is : bou-mansour.myvnc.com my IP address is 69.244.182.119
Any help ??

pwsabm: There is a good chance your ISP is blocking port 80 (I know you tried a No-IP port 80 redirect, but let's just try this). Change the port in the Abyss console to 21208. Then go and forward 21208 to your correct internal IP address (check for typos!). Then type in your IP, followed by the port (such as 63.203.35.55:21208) to see your website.
zpelmo: Make sure you set the correct SRC for the frames pages. If it looks something like C:\Program Files\Abyss Web Server\htdocs\page1.html, you need to change it to /page1.html (called "relative paths"). _________________ Bienvenidos! |

No problem, glad it worked.
So it was your ISP that blocked port 80? Which ISP is it? _________________ Bienvenidos! |

Ok Im not a noob, but Im really confused.
Ill start from the beginning.
Had Abyss for like 3 months now, never had a problem.
Last nite we had a power surge, yet the computer and stuff was fine. This morning, turned on the comp, went to school, came back, and got IM's complaining that my site was down. viewed it (www.apexx.tk) and it "could not be displayed."
I have a D-Link 624 router and it is set on DMZ.
I also have Zone Alarm Pro, which I have disabled/enabled numerous times to see if it was causing this fickle behaviour.
My IP is 24.60.85.172...
So, any ideas on what happened? I can see the site on localhost, but not on my ip or my dyns.
EDIT: Ok, I found out that maybe comcast is blocking port 80? I can use any port besides it to get it to work. So uh, how do I set up port forwarding on a D-Link? |

(On a side note, if you use DMZ, you better secure your machine pretty good since you're using Windows).
A lot of the time, a computer will get a new internal IP from the DHCP and you won't know about it. Open the command prompt, and type "ipconfig" to get your internal IP address. Go into the D-Link router settings, and make sure it matches up with the one you're using for the DMZ.
Consider port forwarding... _________________ Bienvenidos! |

I know a hang of a lot easier way which I had to use so that both me and others could use my Invision Powered Forums which add your internet domain infront of all links :(
Instruction:
Search for your hosts file in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc and open it with notepade.
Then add under line: Code: | 127.0.0.1 localhost |
With:
In my case, means your servers IP then your internet domain.
Now close all browsers and open again and you can now enter your website via the addressess everyone else uses, very helpful :) _________________

Windows\System32\drivers is only on Windows XP, and only by default...
Start-> Run-> Notepad.exe %SYSTEMROOT%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts will open it straight up in Notepad on Windows NT4, 2000 and XP.
More details on using the host file here :
http://www.accs-net.com/hosts
Handy program for editing your hosts file :
http://accs-net.com/hostess/
Hostess will automatically find your Hosts file and allow you to manage it. |
