Error 401 unauthorized
Spent the morning reading the manual.

Have spent most of afternoon reading and applying said remedies to similar problems found.

Have Laptop P4 with 512RAM and XP-Home Addition installed.

After installing Abyss and entering username and password the browser produced the above error.

Have: 1. reinstalled several times
2. cleared username and password from config file and restarted Abyss, re-entering username and password with same result.
3. set dialups not to autostart
4. And so on, and so on, all the way through 10 pages of general questions, to include ports and their configurations.
Browser of record is Internet Explorer 6.0.2800.1106.

Any fixes Out There!

Chances are you cannot fix what is not broke... Abyss works fine on 99% of most PCs running an assortment of OSes... The fix you need to get straight is your browser permissions *if* it is your browser that is stopping you from getting into the Admin panel...

To help trouble shoot the problem try getting on using another browser such as Mozilla or Opera...

Check your cookies and security in IE...

Refresh the 401 error page instead of just trying to go through the Admin panel or Tray Icon...

Know what port the admin panel is counting on... If you havent changed it chances are its port "9999"... Type into your browser address bar http://127.0.0.1:9999/ or http://localhost:9999/ or http://192.168.0.1:9999/

Make sure you have Administrative priveledges on XP and that you're not trying to access Abyss using anything less (though it shouldn't be a problem).

If you're running Abyss and you see it in your tray (small globe on a platter) without an X or greyed out try and see if you see the default Abyss Welcome page... to get to it type in the above addresses with out the port ending colon or "9999" on the address... Unless you changed your server port to the public you do not have to add the port except only if you changed it...

I can not offer any more suggestions except try using another browser to access the Console... If you can access it using another browser chances are IE got corrupted somewhere along the line... If you cannot access it using another browser, try downloading another copy of Abyss from the official Aprelium website at http://www.aprelium.com

Remain patient and best of luck someone will be with you shortly :)

Do you get that error with an Abyss Web Server signature (at the bottom of the error page).
Do you use accented or national characters in the usernmae/password? If so, please use only US ASCII characters (A-Z, a-z, 0-9, and standard symbols only.)

Thank you both posters to my query.

As to the first question: Using the http://127.0.0.1 without the port designation; I do get the Abyss Welcome Page. However, any change of port makes no difference as to accessing the console.

As to the next question: I get a copywrite signature at the bottom of the 401 message with an Abyss link.

As to the last question: All characters are US ASCII. Furthermore, the username:admin
password:123456

Your continued support is welcomed

Eurika !

It's the download.......

It took 4 downloads and 6 installations but Abyss is up and running on both browsers IE6 and Mozzila. Thanks for all your suggestions. The only thing left to try was to redownload and install. Suggest this to all who have unauthorization 401 problems FIRST !!!!

Thanks again VBGUNZ and aprelium
