|
|
I am new to web servers in general. Me and a few friends plan to make an online game in the future and I figured I would start messing around with servers among other things.
Now to my problem...
I have the free version and I am attempting to run it from my primary PC (I have no secondary). I am using Windows XP and a wireless modem/router.
I have gained access to the router configuration screen and have allowed inbound access to port 80. I checked to make sure that the IP address I was allowing connection to was the one assigned to my PC and everything checked out OK.
I run the server and get this message:
Abyss Web Server X1 (v 2.3.2)
Copyright © Aprelium Technologies - 2001-2006
-- Default host on port 80 is up and running (Local URL http://127.0.0.1)
Console local URL: http://127.0.0.1:9999
With all of this configured so, I try to access the server using my external IP (http://XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX) and the page does not exist. I can however connect using the above IP but I believe it to be that only I can connect to it that way. Im not sure of the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

You can not access the server using the external IP because most systems do not support loopback. You should use http://127.0.0.1 or http://localhost from the server itself.
You may however use a proxy server if you need to check for an outside connection to your server.
Here is a few that I learned about on this forum that I like to use to check mine:

There is nothing to configure on the web server side, all the configuration you need is on the router side. You also cannot use your external IP from inside your network (most routers do not support that).

Thanks. I just thought it was weird because I could run a ventrilo server and (after port forwarding) connect to it using my external IP. But now I know it works differently for these things. Thanks a bunch. |

before you set up, i would also try to connecto to a hard line (wired not wireless) as connection times can get laggy, and it will eat up your connection (i think the max MBps is 60 on wireless a wired is 100MBps max :D)(dont quote me on the last statement im not 100% sure) _________________ Where have i been?
