I set up my Abyss server and my port forwarding and everything was working flawlessly. Then yesterday I tried to access my site and it doesn't show up. I get the dreaded "Problem Connecting" error and it's driving me out of my mind. The only thing that happened before this error was that my internet browser didn't connect to the internet, but a quick restart did the trick. I can't even view my site from my IP and it is making me extremely angry because I haven't touched anything to mess with it. If you guys could help me out I would be extremely grateful. My IP is 72.49.79.174 if you need it. Thanks in advance!

What router do you have? I have had router troubles in the past.

Try resetting or restarting your router. Then recheck your IP address.

Your ISP might have started blocking accesses on port 80, try using another port, 81 for instance.

Answering these questions might shed some light on the issue you're having.
What router do you have? What firmware version is your router using?

There is new firmware for you router. That would be my first suggestion. You can find it here.

Here are 2 questions and a suggestion.

Question #1: How do you have port 80 forwarded (in your router setup)? It should be UPnP forwarding port 80 using TCP to your server's 192.168.1.xxx IP address.

Question #2: Did your server's internal IP address change? Such a little change like this will completely cause your web server to quit working to the outside world.
-I have my server's internal IP address manually set to avoid this problem.

Suggestion: To find the source of the problem, you can try the process of elimination. Hook your server directly up to your cable or DSL modem. Then access http://your-ip-address.
If it works, the router was your problem. If it still is not working, it could be your ISP or your computer.

Thanks for the help! It turns out my internal IP had changed. It works for me when I go to my external IP now, can you test it for me to make sure?

Not working for me, also, in your router settings cant you set static internal IPs?

lmao this happens to me. For some reason or another your router mayhave changed your internal IP address do this to fix it:

WINDOWS XP ONLY!

1. start->run->type "cmd"->type "ipconfig/all" and find your IP address
2. go to the ip for your router (something like 192.168.1.1 or something)
3. make sure your ip from the comand program matches your ip in the forwarding part of your router
4. if it does then this isnt the problem. if its different then change it so they match

Problem solved :D

Static IP's can be internal and/or external, it depends on your ISP and your router setup.

You should use a static internal IP to avoid DHCP assigning a new IP to your computer, and rendering your port forwarding rules invalid.

Find in your router the setting for DHCP. Set the range of DHCP to start at 192.168.1.110. Now go to the status page where it states all of the IP addresss etc.

Now go into the IP settings for Windows and set them according to the status page.

You will need to set a unique IP address for each PC you make a static IP for. Your PC should be 192.168.1.100 (if thats the range it uses).

The subnet mask will probably be default 255.255.255.0.

The gateway is the same as your routers IP, in my case 192.168.1.1.

The DNS server IP's are the two stated in your router settings. These vary by ISP.

Once you click OK your computer should reconfigure itself and if its worked your internet should still work and your internal IP will have changed. If it didnt work, don't panic. Go back into the IP settings in windows, and set it back to automatic, click OK and it should set it back to automatic settings again.

Remember to set your routers port forwarding for the 192.168.1.100 address when its working.

I hope this info helps.

It's much easier to manually configure the IP address of the server computer from the server .

Here are directions for Windows XP.

1. Get information
Control Panel -> Network Connections -> Local Area Connection
Click on "Support" tab. Click "Details".
-----
Get your IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, DNS servers, and any other pertinent information.

2. Set your IP address.
Go back to your local area connection status box on the "General" tab.
Click "Properties". Select "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)". Click "Properties".
Instead of obtaining IP address automatically, select "Use the following IP address".
* Be sure when typing in the IP address your server is to have, make it about 100 more. For example, if the server's IP is 192.168.1.105, make the server's manually-set IP to 192.168.1.205. Set the subnet mask, gateway, and DNS servers.

Does this help?

Oops...

I didn't see your post before I posted. It took me a little while to craft my response.

Anyways, maybe two explanations might help. ;)

OK, I'll try this. By the way, what do you do when Abyss says "Halted" and the red dot flashes on the Abyss logo in the toolbar?

Double click on the Abyss icon (which is blinking red). It will bring up the dialog box for the program.

What does it say in the gray text box?

That means the port for the console is being used for something else (or a firewall is blocking it)

When I double-click on my LAN ison it brings up a box, but it doesn't have a "Support" tab. And Abyss Underground's way confuses me.

First of all, what operating system are you using? I have WinXP Home, so these instructions are tailored as such.

The best way to get your information about your IP address is just to tinker around. You'll probably find it by clicking around. :)
Actually, you can get your IP information that I told you you needed by going to the command prompt (Start -> Run -> cmd.exe) and typing ipconfig /all. Again, write down your IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, and DNS servers. When you set your IP address manually, you need this information.

Refer to my last post at #2 to set your IP address manually.

Does this help you?
