It helps if you tell us what you have tried, the specs, how it is connected etc. _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)

That's True... But for Some reason cable modems come with a instalation CD.
I know you have to Configure Win 98 differently than Win XP. But I can't remember if you have to install software to configure it.
I would check but My oldest computer(which has Win 98 upgraded from Win 95) Doesn't have an ethernet port. Becuase I bought it In 1997.
I will research that for you though. |

Why Windows 98? Why not XP or 2000 Pro or even 2003 |

I don't understand your question.
Do you mean:
Why do you have to configure 98 differently than xp?
I believe you have to configure 2000-95 differently than XP. |

Because not everyone wants/can afford to buy a new operating system. Surely that's obvious? _________________

Clearly, in that cause you know well off people, or people with pirated copies?
Not every one can afford to buy 5 copies of XP to install onto 5 different PC's. That's why some of us use Linux, or an older version of Windows. My test server is still running Windows ME. _________________ Olly |

Amen on the Linux. I'm still running my server on the WinXP machine, but I'm surfing now on my XandrOS 3.02 installation. Faster, safer, cheaper. _________________ Red Lion

Once you get them both connected, I recommend getting a KVM switch (stands for keyboard, video, mouse) to control both boxen with. You attach the ps2 and monitor ports to the switch, and your mouse, keyboard and monitor to the output end, and it just works ... allows you to see what's happening on each box with not-a-problem. _________________ Red Lion

Or just Use Synergy as long as they both have access to the internet.

FYI -
Synergy allows you to use only the mouse/keyboard on multiple machines with their own monitor.
A KVM lets you use one monitor/mouse/keyboard with multiple machines.
Synergy is a cool tool, but useless if you use (or have) only one monitor.
It's good for switching between a laptop and desktop, though. ;) |

Yeah That's What I used to Use it for.
But Then I Gave My Desktop to My Mom to use (her old computer crashed)and she Put it In a computer cabinet and the Mobo got fried from the heat.
But At least I learned a great lesson, don't give your computer to your Mom ;-)

Oh sorry I kinda rushed in on that post. I really never used a KVM my friend did though, but he used two monitors. So I thought that it was only Mouse/Keyboard. |

You know what? This thread WAS on-topic until you criticized his choice of OS.
Have you helped anybody in this thread? Or any other thread, for that matter? |
