Is it possible to disable sigs on this board? I'm okay with most boards, but if I wanted your system stats eating my bandwidth I'd go on your sites. I don't really want to see posts telling me how little bandwidth they use, and how they don't bother you either.

Tough. They dont bother us, they dont eat up out bandwidth (we are unlimited) and this topic has been discussed before and dismissed.

Bleh, IPB has a feature in the User CP to allow you to disable viewing other people's sigs, but I won't dwell on that before you flame me for liking IPB better than phpBB. Ah well, I'll just have to stay inactive.
Also, my bandwidth is unlimited, but I like my webpages to load quickly, thanks.

Your choice. I doubt anyone would miss one person. And yes, I do prefer phpBB over IPB but I dont argue over it.

You can make that 2 members who are bothered by them and would like to see an option to disable them. The only reason I'm still here is because Adblock allows me to block all the godawful dynamic sigs people keep adding but everytime I check in the forum from a PC other than my own I have to wait the extra time you all add to page loading.
"Today I am wearing blue socks! The time is ___ I just drank a ___ the time in Australia is ____ my favourite colour today is ____ it is ____ cm to my front door from my telephone! I never have any problems with sigs. If I get sick of waiting, I hit ESC... Simple.

Dispite being guilty myself, I'd like the option too. (I.E. If no one had them, I wouldn't.)
The Inquisitor is being a little ignorant over it in my opinion, I think everyone's entitled to their own opinion of them, and there's no need to be so orkward over it.

Make that 3 members that's sick of looking at them. Thank God for AdBlock.
Even without AdBlock, I still checkmark 'Load Images for the originating website only" option. |

Consider me the 5th. Inquisitor's sig image is 38kB, which strikes me as extreme.
My general rule of thumb is: if your sig is longer than your post, you're just showing off, not contributing.
This goes for avatars too.
In fact, I have a lot of opinions about a lot of things, ask me about them sometime. ;) |

p3, I dont know why you are on the list, up until just now you had a sig yourself on this forum.
If you dont want to see sigs, then just get an ad blocker or quit complaining. Its never been a problem up until 168pin mentioned it.

Some people don't like big images out in front of us while trying to read posts, and they also eat bandwidth (not that much, but it's still a waste)

i visit a lot more active forums,that have lots of sigs(anime boards for example),and if they dont want to see the sigs,they block it..ONLY THAT

17000 of those are probably spam URL only accounts by now due to lack of decent multiuser cleanup tools without applying mods to phpBB. I don't see the other 329 rushing to support you, so you'll find you're outvoted 5 to 1 by people who actually care.

This is a SUPPORT forum for a well established product...not some anime, gaming
or any other "kiddie" forum.
I don't really have a problem with sigs that look good. If a person puts some time
into making a sig with great artwork, then fine, go ahead and show it off. But, there
is absolutely no reason why they have to be so obnoxiously large!!!
Unfortunately, I do agree with Inquisitor on one thing in this matter...
It's obviously up to Aprelium whether or not to have any restrictions on sigs. But, it
would be nice to, at the least, see some rules on the size of a member's sig. |

They have said before they choose not to install any phpBB hacks due to upgrade and stability issues - it's the same reason that the spam URL accounts keep building up; the phpBB base install does not provide the necessary management facilities for a forum of this size.

phpBB 2.* is feature frozen... as for Olympus, I'm not sure if this is a default feature. I'll check over at area51 and find out. |

This is mighty intresting... I My self Have no problem with 38Kb per Sigs, Thats not a lot, I've got random textfiles of useless data thats pigger then that.. But i think it would be a good idea to install that or bring that about in one way or another, for Not Every one owns a Computer That Can Run, Image editing, music, Surf on like 7 Browsers and play a gaim while useing less thatn 50% of the CPU.
