I programed a nice little CMS.
I will set it up, if you want.
The software is ten dollars each.

Theres a preview.
Its basicly plug and play.
Completly userfriendly.
No HTML skill requried!
Thx

There's not much point to replying to this, I doubt the spammer will be back. They've probably just spammed this crap across every forum for a free webserver they can find. I have to say, the site they link to doesn't do a particularly good job of promoting their CMS though...

If anyone is undecided on a CMS, I recommend having a play at http://www.opensourcecms.com/ who have all the standard CMS's up and running for you to test in demo form...

I put my MSN there so people can add it and get help on it, not to be called a di*k for not helping promote some rubbish software or script. He is the only person that has insulted me in any way on msn since I put the address on the forum. I have 29 contacts on my msn help list and 1 has insulted me. I'm not going to let 1 person put me off.

I think my 'tough love' style of help and support wouldn't go down too well. Maybe one day I'll make a spare MSN address and find out :P

Exactly what I did. I could have infinite numbers of accounts if I wanted. Just make a new e-mail alias on my domain :P

BTW, do you actually have a website or just help people out?

I have a small website that I basically use to maintain remote access to my home PC and a keep work log / todo list / diary etc so I can quickly leave myself notes while I'm at work - not intended for general consumption. I do own a domain and some pro webspace but it's really just parked at the moment, I seem to never get round to getting any of my bigger project ideas going.

I came here when I was having problems with a bug in one of the earlier versions of Abyss and was amazed when Aprelium knocked up a custom version of Abyss within days and sent it to me for testing. Thought I'd stick around and give something back to say thanks...

lol, without Abyss, I wouldnt have my website. I hate Apache *shudders at the name* and refuse to use it. Although I have to admit, my pro web space does use it but that can't be helped I'm afraid...

After working my way up through DOS, Win 3.11, Win 9x, NT then 2K and XP, I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty on the command line or in configuration files - Apache has never really bothered me. I used it before Abyss and stuck with Abyss because Apache was just total overkill for a very low traffic home users site.

Over the time I've been using Abyss, it has been amazing to see how it has got closer and closer to providing all the functionality I would want from an Apache install if I was running a larger hobby site - shame the vhosts didn't (and SSL probably won't) make it into X1 though :(

I thought that was a shame too but then again, Aprelium have to make money some how, and X2 was the answer. I have X2 and since buying it have been very pleased, heck, to add a new subdomain I dont even need to going to my DNS control panel, just add it to abyss and up and away!

I have no problem with Aprelium needing cash at all - if I'd finished something as complex as Abyss, I'd definitely consider a pro version...

My only problem is that if I did get a larger site up and running, I'd definitely want to use vhosts, and while Abyss is great, when there are plenty of other free servers (even excluding Apache) that support them, I'd have to switch. I just can't justify paying out for one extra feature... There are features in X1 that I would have considered more important in X2 for a professional site - the bandwidth control etc would have made a better 'carrot and stick' for users to move to X2, vhosts just means that your average user will either have to use the PHP VHC script or move to a different server.

I see your point but you have to remember that Abyss is the easiest web server to set up what with its GUI control panel. Thats the joy of using abyss, its ease of use.

What other servers apart from Apache have you tested fully? I know a lot of people have come here after trying to use Xitami, I'd be interested to know what other people used before arriving at Abyss.

I tried Apache *shudder* and one called SimpleHTTPServer by AnalogX. SimpleHTTPServer was what got me interested in hosting a site at home.

AnalogX had some great little tools back in the day :) I haven't checked up on the site for years, I should go back and see if he's added any new toys...

Playing devils advocate, after testing 2 servers, 1 without a GUI, are you really qualified to say "that Abyss is the easiest web server to set up what with its GUI control panel"? It's a bit like driving a clapped out mini and declaring it the best car on earth because the only 2 cars you've driven before that were a model T Ford and a Skoda ;)

Rephase -> change the phase of an object, sci-fi term relating to moving in space/time, "Quick, before they rephase into our dimension!"

Flam -> the "dudutish!" drum sound delivered after a bad joke by a comedian who knows it's a bad joke.

In short, it was a bad pun on your typo of rephrase. Relax ;)
