|
|
Hello,
Me and TRUSTpunk have got together and decided to make a partnership in tutorials websites. If you take a look at http://www.abyssunderground.co.uk you will be able to see how far I have got.
TRUSTpunk and myself are still working on both of our websites so keep checking back to see how we are getting on.
Aprelium, could you take a look at the site and see if you think it is a good enough effort? Maybe you could suggest improvements?
Thanks,

The Inquisitor,
These are great news for the users community and for Aprelium.
The web site looks promising and we will do our best to help you with technical information and advice.
When the web site will be ready, please notify us so that we can link to it from aprelium.com .
Other people running Abyss Web Server related sites are also invited to contact us so that we can link to them. |

Nice one. I am about to get the forum (phpbb) online so users can also post on my forum as well as the Aprelium Forum.
Myself and TRUSTpunk are still discussing what is going on each site, I am doing some things, he is doing others.

I tried to create an account on your forum, but I'm getting a database error ... "Not Found

The word "garish" springs to mind. Don't get me wrong... It's a great idea. You and Trust will help the Abyss community hugely, I'm sure. But the colour scheme just makes me want to click away... immediately. And, personally, I would get rid of the Apache .png file at the bottom. It's unprofessional to say the least, and juvenile in the extreme.
I don't see any "Powered by... nuke etc etc" tags at the bottom of the page, (and the source code doesn't look familiar) which leads me to believe you built the whole show yourself. If that's the case, then props to ya! Nice work. But I can't help feeling that an "off-the-shelf" install of something like Mambo CMS would give you a much more professional looking site, with only minor graphical editing required to "brand" it.
My 2c's worth...

Sorry TRUSTpunk, that thing does look strange, for a few minutes I thought it meant the site was powered by Apache but you wanted to piss on it or something.. |

Sorry about the forum, like it says on the announcements page, my ISP has been having database problems.
It is being sorted out so it should be ok within a few days.

The forum is now fine and working! My ISP told me all database's are now fixed and working properly.
I have also backed up the database so I can save the configuration file.
Please register on the forum and keep it in your favourites for quick access!
Yes, I did write the whole website myself but I prefer my own sites to a pre-made one. It just means no-one else will have the same design. If you get a pre-made one, many people around the world could have the design... That some-how doesn't seem professional to me...
Also, there is a sample tutorial video available. The link is on the home page if anyone wants to look.

Aprelium,
It may be worth posting http://www.abyssunderground.co.uk on your website now. It is nearly complete and will help people out. It is being updated almost every day too so more things will be added.

And if it is currently hosted elsewhere, why does it have the Powered by Abyss logo? ;) |

It helps to read the site information bar before posting things like this...
it says
Quote: | When all of my websites are completed, they will be hosted on Abyss because I will be upgrading to a VDS with root access. |

That still doesn't explain why you'd display "Powered By Abyss" now, when it isn't... |

I suppose you are right but as it is trying to support and advertise Abyss then why not...?

It wasn't meant to be a harsh comment, just seems like an odd idea to use the Powered By banner when you could be simply using a large Aprelium/Abyss banner and just linking back here - or even add "Unfortunately not" to the top of the Powered By Logo. It seems silly to have all this anti Apache junk everywhere whilst actually running on it... |

I have just redesigned the template for the site. It is now online so see how long it takes to load and let me know please.
Thanks.
(P.S. It will be hosted on Abyss until Sunday morning, I have to turn the server off until the summer then :'( I don't live where the server is hosted so it is only online when I am there, only 6 times a year) _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)
