Hi,
I've used you abyss for years on windows and are very happy with it. It's a great program!

Now to the problem. I'm trying to get php with gd2 to work on my powerbook. I downloaded and followed the instructions on how to get it working and everything works. But how do I get gd2 to work?

hansoj,

You should download the source code of the GD2 library and compile it. Then you should download the source code of PHP and build it with GD2 extensions enabled.

If you're not used to building software from source code, this can be difficult for you. But if you can wait for some days, we can do this for you: we're going to build PHP 4 and 5 for MacOS X with MySQL and GD enabled for our MacOS users.

We've managed to build (on Mac) PHP 4.3.10 with GD2, MySQL and other extra extensions today. We're currently testing it. If it is working fine, we'll release the package tomorrow.

The MacOS X PHP package with MySQL and GD2 support is ready.

* Download http://www.aprelium.com/data/PHP-CGI.dmg
* Double-click on the downloaded file.
* A disk image will be opened.
* Drag the PHP folder in your Applications folder (it must be in this folder.)
* Configure PHP in Abyss Web Server as explained in http://www.aprelium.com/abyssws/php.html and enter /Applications/PHP/bin/php as the interpreter.

The php.ini file is in /Applications/PHP/lib/php.ini .

Please let us know if it works fine for you or if there are issues or suggestions.

Perfect! It worked right out of the box.

The only thing I would like to changes is that I would like to move the PHP folder from /Applications to my /Applications/Abyss Web Server folder. But other than that I love it.

Now the only problems is to make my Powerbook accessible from the internet :D. But that's a totally different problem.

Thanks, you are wonderful.

You're welcome.

The problem with PHP is that you have to choose the directory it will be in before compiling it. In other words, the paths are hard coded inside it. So you cannot move it to another directory without breaking many things. For example, if you see the phpinfo() page, you'll notice that the php.ini location is hard coded.

If you want to use another directory, you'll have to rebuild it from scratch (and this takes too much time because you must build some libraries that it relies on.)
