It has subdomain to URL redirection, besides redirecting to an IP address. It also has many other types of redirection. I use it as a free alternative to domains.

i get that when i try to go on the site
another site that can do the same thing is http://www.no-ip.com im using it.
thats quite internesting... does that mean you can type say subdomain.rootdomain.com/file.html or link to it without haveing to write the extra :8080/a/path ?

"subdomain.rootdomain.com/file.html" would point to
"http://somewhere.com:8080/a/path/file.html" |

I prefer dynu.com because it has a short url xxx.dynu.com and offers port redirection, offline actions, url masking, url forwarding, and many other options. Just somting to consider.
