Here is the twist: I've tried all the mentioned solutions and am still having the same problem!
Background information:
When I don't use the router, everything works fine. I'm using a Netgear RP614v2 on a Win98 system. I have a dynamic IP from NO-IP (Sterling.hopto.org) My ISP does not allow port 80, so I use the port 80 redirect option.
This is what I've tried:
I have tried various other ports other than 80 (8080, 1024, 7856 etc) Each of these ports were plugged into NO-IP, the Abyss console, and my router's port forwarding option. On each instance, I had no success in viewing my page.
Simply entering my external IP follwed by the port number does not work either.
I have tried probing the ports mentioned above using the diagnosic URL "http://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?rh1dkyd2" and despite forwarding each port, it will not give my anything other than "stealth" status.
Very frustrating. Anyway, I'm sure I've either missed something very simple or one of you gurus on this forum is bound to lead me in the right direction.
Thanks! |

on your router you need to setup port forwarding (virtual server).
forward your're server port to the internal ip address were abyss is running _________________ Olly |

Yes, I have done that. I tried forwarding each different port to the computer I'm trying to run as a server (192.168.0.3) but nothing seems to work.
Any other options? |

Do you have a software firewall blocking the requests? |

update:
I tried using the proxy "proxify.com" and I'm still not able to view my page. So its not just a router loopback problem. |

Yay!
I finally got it to work! So here was the problem:
My router Netgear RP614v2 has a small flaw. The selected port I am forwarding for the web server will only work if a certain combination of other ports are being forward. For instance, I had a few other ports I needed to forward for seperate applications. Once I enabled all of them BINGO! Everything worked.
A firmware update may solve this issue. Otherwise, it makes for a very frustrating scenario.
Adios! |
