php form login to a web site

Ok guys, bear with me. I am catching on quickly now. I have learned basic php now and I have a full blown website that has empty forms on it the way I would like it. And now I want to create a login with a User name and Password that lets people log into accounts using PHP. My question is, what do I have to do, or get to make this happen? I am totaly willing to do some work, please someone let me know.
