I changed the port of my website to 8080 and I went to 192.168.1.1 (becauser I have a linksys router) and I changed the line to look like this
8080 To 8080 192.168.1.101
and it doesn't work I don't have a personal firewall. I went to that abyss/ip webiste and it gave me the ip address 67.86.xx.x I gave that out to my friends as http://67.86.xx.x:8080 and nothing happend for them. (xx.x is replaceing the real numbers just incase)
I can get to it from the computers on my LAN. but that is all

What do you mean by "it doesn't work"?
Are you getting errors? a blank page?

Let's get the obvious out of the way...
On your router setup page,
Did you checkmark all the boxes? (ie, protocols and enable)
Did you click the Apply button at the bottom?

If your running XP, did you turn off the built-in firewall?
(a lot of ppl overlook that one)

It seems as though it is working on my end (I don't get any errors)
I made sure those things are checked on my routers page, ( not a n00b in that section)

but, how do I get to the "windows XP firewall"?
(I am running windows XP)

Go to My Network Places > View Network Connections.
Right-click your connection and hit Properties...Advanced.
There, you'll see it.

OK, you said you forwarded port:8080 for 192.168.1.101.
Are you sure that's your internal IP? Not 192.168.1.100, instead?

DELETED - Nevermind, dumb question

OK, try this...

Go back to router setup page.
Advanced > Forwarding > UPnP Forwarding
In one of the blank boxes, fill it like below, then Apply.
See if that works.
