hey aprelium,

I'm not sure if this is supposed to be here, btu i couldnt find anywhere else to put it. On my site, i generally have been depending on other people to give me stuff for download. I need to find out a way for people to connect through an FTP program, such as SmartFTP, because Netmeeting is really becoming a pain in the ass, if i may. It keeps stopping the file transfers, and it annoys me. Ive tried making users and usergroups and aliases and whatever, btu it wont work. So, i would like to request you help me on the situation.

No offence but when I used guideftpd , my system resources where always high and also when you use it on a windows XP machine it always crashed. Karasu_Kami , if you find a better version of Guideftpd , please let me know , I want the FTP server its just buggy right now.

I recommend:

Bullet Proof FTP server , it may not be free but if you want a crack for it
give me a private message , I have a collection of them. :D

Want to see Aprelium disappear from Google ?

I have been using http://www.cerberusftp.com but now having a look at FileZilla for work given that it's totally free not just for personal use - thanks Axis!

You were probably just being an idiot. My server is always running, my system resources are low, and its on a priority of real time (Highest setting). So before you blame me, the version, the software, or anything else you can think of. Stop being stupid and think! ^^;

so, let me get this straight, in order for people to conenct to me just like they would connect to any old server (HostUltra, for example), i have to download a program such as this? i thought it might be a problem with my users and aliases settings. for example, some ftp info might be like this

Server: hostultra.ftp.com
Username: mario
password: daplummer

this is what i need to figure out. how to make an account so that people can connect DIRECTLY to my computer as if it were a normal webhost. i mean, i could probably just be confused, but im pretty sure thats what i need.
hollah with ya responses, hommies. i need this alot

sample scenario
i am a user, who has been contacted by an Abyss Web Server user who needs my files. Netmeeting blows goat sack, and i dont wanna use some other crap. so, i wanna use FTP. i have all the info, but i cant connect (Unknown Error While Connecting).

Abyss is a http server, you're talking about ftp, so yes, you need a different program to do this.

I'll second the vote for FileZilla.

When you set up users/accounts, you'd set them up so they upload directly into whatever you've set up for their home directory on your site, eg. htdocs/mario/

see, i thought thats what you said, but i wasnt sure. FileZilla is kindal like a client for FTP, like PHP and MySQL are for the things they represent, right?

Hi skrotus--

I guess I could have been more clear. Filezilla has both a ftp server and a ftp application.

The download for the ftp server is *directly* here:

Oopsie. My bad also.

Axis, I'm liking how FileZilla runs as a proper NT service! None of the other freeware apps seem able to do that, I was about to buy Serv-U :D

FileZilla has 2 parts. 1 is an FTP client, 1 is an FTP server. Just download the server as axis suggested and provided a link to...
