I've had Abyss running successfully for a couple of months now, using a domain name maintained through DynDNS.org. I had a dynamic IP address assigned to my PC, connected to ADSL through a hub. I had Kerio Personal Firewall running in "Alert" mode, logging each incoming http request that I had set Kerio to allow through (Port 80) to Abyss. I could see each valid http request being logged in Abyss' log. Everything was fine.

Today, I added a D-Link DI-704P router between the ADSL modem and my Abyss PC. I have the PC successfully browsing the Web, listening to streaming audio, even P2P file-sharing with WinMX. *BUT*, I can't get Abyss to serve Web pages from my Web site any more. I've tried browsing my Web site (using the domain name address) from the Web server PC, and from another PC on my home LAN (also on the "in" side of the router), but it doesn't work. I've set up Virtual Server on the router, forwarding inbound Port 80 requests to 192.168.0.117 (the Abyss PC). The forwarding seems to work okay, because Kerio Personal Firewall is still alerting me to the inbound Port 80 requests, and continuing to "Allow" them through. So, the messages are arriving at the Abyss PC, passing through the Kerio firewall, but then, nothing! Abyss shows no sign of receiving or processing the messages in its Access Statistics or logfile.

One more thing: http://localhost *does* work, so Abyss is not dead. It just seems oblivious to anything passing through the router.

(I read an earlier message in this Forum to the effect that with Belkin routers, a PC on the "in" side of the router cannot get a Web page from an Abyss server that is also on the "in" side of the router. Could that be the case here?)

If anyone cares to give it a try, it's at http://genechan.homeip.net/

I would be supremely grateful to anyone who can sort this out!

Thanks, Aprelium. I saw an http request from 193.95.96.181 (that's you, I think) go through the Kerio firewall as an "Allowed" message. I see the requests in the Abyss logfile as being processed successfully.

My conclusion at this point is that my Web server works fine for requests coming from the "out" side of the router, but that requests from the "in" side (i.e., from PCs on my own LAN) don't work, for some reason. Sigh. :( I suspect this is not "fixable", and I'll just have to live with it. Thanks.

Would anyone know of a way to see ALL the messages going into Abyss? I just want to narrow down whether Abyss is even receiving the requests, or whether the requests are getting lost somewhere between the Kerio firewall and Abyss.

Yes, it was us. By the way, can you see if you can configure Kerio to allow also LAN addresses to contact your server? Another thing, if you are contacting your server from inside the LAN, you shouldn't use the external IP, usually it won't work. You should rather use the server LAN IP.

Thanks again, Aprelium.

To clarify, when I try to access my Web server from my PC inside the LAN:
    "genechan.homeip.net" does not work
"209.53.35.15" (the public IP address) does not work
    "localhost" does work
"192.168.0.117" (the private IP address inside the LAN) does work

"localhost' and the private IP address bypass the Kerio firewall (nothing shows up in the Kerio logfile.)

That's normal. A small hack would be to locate the file called "hosts" in your windows directory and to add the line
Code:
192.168.0.117      genechan.homeip.net

This way, when you browse genechan.homeip.net from your computer, it will bypass the DNS search and use directly the correct LAN IP.

Why didn't I think of that? :D Thanks, Aprelium. It works fine.
