Hey, I have a SpeedStream 5660, does yoour modem kinda also act like a router? Like, when setting up the modem, you can choose bridge or router mode...

I believe that the 56XX series modems do this, whereas 52XX's do not.

Who's your ISP? Alltel.net?

Your DSL modem should be acting as a bridge. How did you gain access to it? My ISP will not allow me to gain access or to fool around with it setting.

modem's local ip is 10.0.0.1

actually, I live in a very small town and I was the first person in town to get DSL, I actually showed the installation guy how to setup people's computers for DSL.

He knew I would cuz I know him...

Ahh, I see. I guess you are the lucky one that can access your Modem "Bridge".

Normally, the modem should be a bridge between you and your ISP. When there a problem or testing or whatever, they can access it to check or to correct thing if there is a problem. They will know if the problem relate to their network or your own internal LAN problem. Everything should pass-thru or be restrict according to your ISP.
