Ok, I'm pretty sure it something with my router and my modem...
Here's everything I know...
Speedstream 5660 dsl modem, in router mode... then... local ip 10.0.0.1
Linksys Router NR041-WM... not sure what mode, but i believe it's in router mode as well... it's local ip is 10.0.0.2
then my server computer Win 98 SE static ip 192.168.1.152
i have tried all the following...
1. setting both the router and modem to forward port 80/or 8080 to 192.168.1.152
2. setting the modem to forward port 80/or 8080 to the router (10.0.0.2) then to forward to 192.168.1.152
3. setting just either the router or the modem to forward to that 192 addy....
Results: I can type my real (not local) ip addy in with the default port of 80 and I get my modem setup page.... when I type with :8080 I don't really remember but it didn't work either....
My question is do I need to set the modem to bridge or make sure the router is in Gateway mode or just move to Mexico where in most cases I don't believe they have DSL so hosting my own server wouldn't be an option? Seriously, I have been working on this for about 3 weeks off and on... I also have a friend to told me to call a network 'specialists' and ask him, for a small fee... but then again... I getting things done for free.
If anyone has anything similar to this setup and can help let me know... I'm on Alltel.net DSL service. Also, once I get the webserver running, I'm also going to be setting up a small gaming server.
