OK, I found out my ip address is 12.238.214.111 but when I typed it in, it shows the page of "cannot find server". I tried to type in the port, but fail miserablely as well!! Now I don't know what to do, I've been messing w/it for hours already, and I'm really tired.
I hope you guys can give me a hand on this, thanks!!! |

I haven't had any luck changing the port number it uses, if I choose anything other than 80 it won't work, even on my computer that doesn't have a firewall or router (direct connection)so.......
(Did you tell Abyss to use that port to?)

Are you behind a router? I know that atleast, on the NETGEAR DG814, you cannot access your own site using your external IP.
e.g.
On my computer running abyss, i need to type http://localhost, or http://127.0.0.1 into the browser bar to view the site.
Have you tried http://127.0.0.1:8080 |

Doesn't http://127.0.0.1:8080 take you back to your local hard drive?! If I can't access my own site w/my external IP, would the others be able to view it though?! BTW, I finally swiched back to port 80....... yet it is still not working for me (except for taking me back to my hard drive)!! *sigh* VERY FRUSTRATING!!!
P.S What'a router, and what's NETGEAR CD814??! (Sorry, I'm not very good @ computers and stuff)  |

A router is a way to connect a group of computers to one internet connection. It does one or two other things, but this is mainly what is needed to know. Also, some routers have a built in modem, and some haven't. The NETGEAR DG814 is just one of many routers, there are different makes to choose from.
When you say that it takes you back to your local hard drive, do you mean as in folder view (i.e. you can see the contents of "c:\" etc etc)?
localhost (127.0.0.1) is a special internal IP address, that loops back to your own computer. If you are running a webserver (abyss) and you type http://127.0.0.1 into the browser bar, you should get a response from the webserver, which should display the website as it would to anyone else.
Also, yes, others should be able to view your site with your external IP, but only if you have the correct port opened to that computer (to do this, you will have to check your, router and/or firewall manuals) |

I ran a scan on the ip you gave in the first messgae, and your port 80 is not open neither is 8080 but you do have 24 ports open from 1024 to 5000 you might want to check on this.... |

What you have my friend is a Dynamic IP Address and it can not be a static IP unless you have a router on your network ! sorry , but my suggestion is to get a router and then setup a Static IP and then run abyss web server 8) _________________ This web server is the best ! |

When your public IP change, it call a dynamic IP. Your ISP may cycle your IP to something else. You will need to update your IP by using something like NO-IP.com from www.no-ip.com or similar service. Or request your ISP to a static IP which they may ask you to pay for it. _________________ CapFusion,... |
