simple question: can i run scripts using this particular mod? or is it totally dependent upon what i've installed?

This is a Perl installation question. Basically, this is not related with the web server. Install the Perl module and test your script that uses it. If it runs OK on your Perl installation (on the command line for example), it will run on the web server.
