|
|
Hey, I'm installing PHP 5.2.5 now as we speak and I've been prompted with the option to select which extensions I wish to be enabled by default.
It is here where I am stumped. I have no idea which extensions to enable as I have no idea which ones I'll need in the future.
I presume its unwise to enable them all?
My web server is home run, and its basic uses are as follows:
* Basic Web server, hosting HTML & CSS files to the world.
* Basic PHP support, ability to run and display PHP files to the world.
* Basic MySQL support, ability to send Database data to PHP files and display the results to the world.
Other future uses may include forums and galleries etc.
I want to configure my web server to be compatible and in working order for any/most? browser based activities. Maybe even browser based games, but I won't worry about that just yet, thats getting abit ahead of myself.
Any help and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It is unwise to enable them all due to the fact that with them all enabled loading speed of the interpreter will be slower. If you get a pre-configured package from www.abyssunderground.co.uk it already has the extenions enabled that 99% of people will use. This may be a better option for you. _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)

No its not up to date since Aprelium haven't supplied us with a new preconfigured package yet but unless the newest version contains something you need, there is no harm in using an older version. I still use PHP v4 since not everything is compatible with 5. _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)

I don't know off the top of my head but if you open the php.ini you can find the extensions bit and see which extensions are uncommented (eg switched on). _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)
