Hi all,

I know some php and need to learn about asp and would like to parse asp here on my laptop.

I understand that the regular routes of doing this are iis and pws, but are unavailable to me because I am using winxp home edition.

So I was told I could use Abyss.

I've installed it and that seemed to go fine. Now I want it to parse an asp page. I made a page with:

<%
response.write("Hello World!")
%>

named it test.asp and put it in the htdocs folder of Abyss. Ran it in my browser (http//localhost:port/path) and just got the code back. It didn't parse.

Now, if I go to the console and look up asp parameters, it says I have .net 1.1... but I'm not sure what to enter for path? Is that the problem?

It would be handy to be able to parse php locally as well. Is that already a part of Abyss?

And lastly, am I in any danger of Abyss trying to act as a server and serving up something to someone on another computer? I have a firewall up, but I don't see anything in the console that restricts Abyss to just delivering things locally. Is there anything I need to do about that issue? (I did set the port to an obscure one)

I need lots of help, I know. I would sincerely appreciate any assistance here,

Chris

To get ASP and PHP parsing, see http://www.aprelium.com/support/ and look under scripting languages support.

Abyss will only serve files located under your htdocs folder and any aliases you may have set up. That would be true for nearly every web server out there.
