I have a Linksys cable router and i have tried absolutely everythig to give access to those outside the router firewall. I've the ports to 80 and practically every other number I coud think of. I've had friends type in all types of addresses-- 192.*., 127.0.0, 68.*.*. I've even placed the IP in the DMZ temporarily. Manual doesn't help.

Nothing. I don't know what I should do. Abyss is on the same computer type I type this thread and it's connected directly to the router. I'm so lost. What is the address to give to others to access the site?

None of the threads have helped unless I'm doing this wrong. Is there a way to change the IP of Abyss from 127... to something else? Can a single tutorials be created?

Please help!!! :(

127.0.0.1 or localhost = A loopback address which only works on your machine. Anyone trying to access that address will only be contacting their own machine. It is not a network address and cannot be accessed from the outside (public).

10.* or 192.168.* = A network address which can only be accessed across a local network. No one outside the public can access this kind of address. Only machines located within the private network will recognize these addresses.

None of the above addresses are global addresses. It might get confusing from around 192.* up to 255.* but check out the Linkers post below this one for a link to a better explaination.

When working with a router your public address is anything other than the above addresses. Go here http://www.aprelium.com/ip/ and write down the address given. This address should be the address to your router.

You'll have to know how to configure your router to get your router to forward web request to a local machine with a network address (not a loopback address).

Good luck :)

Ehh... Class C addresses, going from 192.*.*.* to 223.*.*.*, are public... with the exception of some Special-Use Addresses in the 192.*.*.* segment. You can find more detailed information at http://www.iana.org/ipaddress/ip-addresses.htm, http://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc3330.txt for the Special-Use Addresses and http://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc1918.txt for Address Allocation for Private Internets.

192.168.x.x

is classically used as the lan side addresses, in fact if you share a connection widows forces this address for any computers sharing

Thanks Linker, I knew I could've been wrong about the 192.168.* up to 255.* IP understanding and had been looking for more detailed information on it. Thanks for the links :)
