hi.

after first test-runs with abyss i'm very excited! i do not like the oldshool standard-solutions and have made bad experiences with linux and apache ;-)
i want to offer a kind of very simplified hosting for my (design-)clients. is there a practical solution to offer non-professionel clients/users a basic login? and which package of ftp-/mail-server eg. is perfect for usage on a mac os x-server?
anybody out there? ;-)

thank you and regards,
jan

stoltenhoff,

Abyss Web Server will only manage the web service part. You still need an FTP and mail server. Mac OS X comes with an FTP server as well with a mail server by default. If you have Mac OS X Server, there should be a GUI tool to control them.

If your hosting accounts need not to be automated and your clients are not going to host scripts, you can go with this solution:
* For each client, create a user account on your Mac OS X system.
* Declare a new host in Abyss Web Server X2 which Documents Path is the user account directory (should be /Users/username)
* Enable the FTP and mail servers. By default they will authenticate against the system accounts and know where to put the files and mails.
