I didn't see any posts on ghostscript in the forum. I would like to use it in order to convert pdf's via image magick...
Is ghostscript something that gets installed on the server? Or is it local machine specific software?
(Wasn't sure where to post this).

Ghostscript is no more than a Postscript interpreter/converter. It can be invoked from any scripting language to convert PS files to PDF (or vice versa) for example. You can also use it to do any type of PS conversion/manipulation (including reformatting pages and removing some of them).
So install Ghostscript on your computer and learn how to use its command line. Next call it from any scripting language to do any PS/PDF conversion/manipulation.
