This has something to do with the user you are logging on as. I believe you have to log in and run it with root first then close it and log in as a normal user and then run it again. Its something to do with linux not letting you use ports in a certain range unless running as root.

Failing that, do you have any other program using port 9999?

scott1x,

Please run the following command:

Code:
strace -o trace.log ./abyssws --slave

Then run:

Code:
bzip2 -9 trace.log

and send to support@aprelium.com the resulting file called trace.log.bz2 . Thanks in advance.[/code]

Port 9999 is free AND the root/user trick worked! I'm still having a "listening problem" on port 80, but 8080 seems to be working fine. Anyone have any suggestions on that one.

Port 80 is most likely because Apache is running, something some linux distros do by default. Find it and disable it. Failing that, see if any other programs you run use port 80.

I am unable to find apache as a service in my service list. I've posted for help in the pclos forum, but can anyone, here, assist?
