I'm curious should we upgrade to the latest activepython and perl ? which I've seen a different version for what i have.And do we configure it the same way as the old version??

As with "most" software, updates are usually for bug/security fixes. So, it's usually a good idea to update.

There are known compatibility issues between 5.6.x and 5.8.x binary versions of Perl.
They shouldn't affect you unless you're using Linux and extensions or PPM packages.
I could be wrong about the incompatible changes, so a more knowledgeable person should reply.
IMO, install the new version. Try it out. If it doesn't work, you can always reinstall the old version.
I've upgraded Perl with no problems...and, yes, the setup instructions are the same.
I can't comment on ActivePython as I don't use it. |
