I myself like to be able to see where people go. On my web site. I have been trying different software for Web stats. Some are very expensive. However at this web site, I did find some information about AWStats, which I was able to follow. So therefore I try my hand, at new tutorial using the latest version between Abyss and AWStats.

There is no guarantee that it will work for you however so far it seems to be working OK, for me.

That tutorial looks excellent. I never got AWStats working on my server. Its just too complicated for people to bother setting up. I may follow this tutorial one day.

PS: The part 3 link on page 2 is non-existant.

You could try http://www.weblogexpert.com/ but this isnt web based, it analyses your log file each time you run it and creates the HTML pages for it. Maybe you could set it up as a scheduled task?

Select your log file in the options and away you go. Its that simple. Im not sure if it can be set up as a scheduled task or not. Im yet to try myself. It might only be included in the pro version.

EDIT: The pro version CAN use command line :-) It also has a schedule function so there is no need to use the command line.

A big "THANK YOU" to you, The Inquisitor.
For your assistance. I was wondering if I was doing things correctly.
I believe I will try the pro version, it would be well worth the price I believe for the information that I am looking for.
Once again thank you very much for your help.

What did you set the log file to? I installed AWstats and now I have to move a bunch of files from AWSTATS folder. Did you have to move other files before setting the log file?

claytonkessler

I basically gave up on AWSTATS, I was only able to get it to work one time only. I pointed the program at the abyss Web log.

I also gave up and uninstalled AWSTATS because I do not have several days to set it up right now. Maybe in the future I will revisit it. If anyone knows of another program that will work well with Abyss server please let me know.

Required: extended logging + perl
if you don't know how to install perl go http://abyssunderground.co.uk it helps.

i moved awstats to C:\Program Files\Abyss Web Server\scripts\awstats
then i added an alis to the virtual directory
to configure virtual directorys use the abyss admin page.
dir name: /awstats
dir location: scripts/awstats

AWSTATS Setup
1. Copied awstats.model.conf to awstats.[youdomain].conf
2. Edit awstats.[youdomain].conf

Find the following keys:
LogFile="C:/Program Files/Abyss Web Server/log/access.log" - your log fol location.
LogFormat=1 - i am using the default log format just remember extended logging must be enabled
NOTE: Login to your abyss admin usually port 9999.
Go to logging and make sure extended logging is enabled.

these are vars to point to the required data.
DirCgi="/awstats" - web root dir where awstats sits in your site. [web directory]
DirIcons="/awstats/icon" - where the images are located. [web directory]
DirData="DATA" - Directory of stored logs
AllowToUpdateStatsFromBrowser=0 - this will disable the update link on the browser.

I made a batch file to call the perl script and to update it, of course if you want to enable updates from a web browser set it to 1 and password protect the awstats directory.
Code:

@echo off
rem Created by admin@ejtsystems.com
rem Changes Directory to following location must change
cd C:\Program Files\Abyss Web Server\scripts\awstats
rem awstats.[yourdomain].conf
C:\perl\bin\perl.exe awstats.pl -config=[yourdomain] -update
pause

This is the log format for LogFormat=1
%host %other %logname %time1 %methodurl %code %bytesd %refererquot %uaquot

Hope this helps a little.

here is a sample of awstats working on abyss webserver.

Thank you, for your effort.

I do not understand what you're doing, however I have try, following your tutorial.
I am not a programmer, so therefore your tutorial did not make too much sense to me. :?
But nevertheless it was appreciated, a gallant effort.
