I am trying to work on a windows 98 machine which I have finally installed a server onto successfully with the help of this forum. I cannot install a bunch of things on this like...
PHP my admin
Filezilla FTP server
and more...
Is this just my operating system or is something to do with me...
--------------------------------
Also I have got it so that people can now view my server's site but unfortunatly the WAN IP address keeps changing on me.
Yesterday it was...
216.106.101.140
and now it is...
216.106.100.118
what is going on...
thanks and hope to hear from someone

98 is not very "server" compatable. You are best upgrading to XP or 2000.
Your WAN IP will change because it is dynamic. There is nothing you can do about this unless your ISP offers static IP's and you pay for one. You will have to get a no-ip domain to have a static domain but dynamic IP. _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)

adamscott,
PHPMyAdmin should work since it relies on PHP only (and PHP works on Windows 98). _________________ Support Team

Win98 does not support FastCGI. Are you sure you're using PHP with the regular CGI-interface? If not, you should change it in the console.

You have a dynamic IP address. You should use some service like No-IP. |

Actually FastCGI using the TCP/IP sockets is fully supported on Windows 98.
The problem is that PHP no more supports that mode (it only supports FastCGI through pipes) and so only the Windows versions based on the NT kernel can run FastCGI (since the named pipes are only supported in the NT kernel). _________________ Support Team

I beg to differ, as I have a win98 server too... I have the details of my server page on my personal website somewhere... here's the link...
http://haidavision.no-ip.info/gannyaa/2007/01-jan/server.htm
There on that page I list what this win98 machine can do. ArgoSoft has an FTP program but you have to pay for it, that is win98 compatible.
I haven't played with MySQL yet. Since I have played with Abyss, a couple of times a week, someone's is trying to hack my (non-existent) SQL database, according to my access.log files. I'm just watching what the hacker's are looking for now, and setting up differently ... blah blah
I hope this helps. _________________ Todd (Gannyaa)
