Hello again!

I use Abyss Web Server X2 and ActiveHTML on my home computer.

I run an ASP based discussion forum which has built-in functionality to send email notifications to members who choose this. It can do this via CDOSYS, CDONTS, ASPMAIL, AspSmartMail and so on.

I have web space, domain names, email etc on an internet server and the forum sent emails just fine there, but I have found that the forum runs faster on my PC, so I simply have a page which redirects people from my domain name on my internet server to the Abyss server on my PC.

However, I can't fathom out how to make it send emails from the PC.

Can anybody please advise if this is possible?.

You will need a mail server such as hMailServer. You will need to set it up and then use "localhost" as the mail sending "domain".

There is a list of free/trial/paid mail servers here: http://aprelium.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7353

You can view information about the mail server, and set it up for your PHP/ASP service to use. :)

Steve R,

You'll have to configure these components to use the SMTP server of your ISP (the outgoing mail server of your ISP that you use when configuring your mail client such as Outlook). The second option is to install your own mail server and configure the components to use it for sending emails.

Many thanks guys.

I've installed hMailServer, but don't know what to put as the domain.

I have domains, but they do not point at my computer. The address of the forum on my computer is simply my IP address.

Hello Aprelium, our posts coincided.

In Outlook, I simply use the details of my SMTP server on the internet (ie the company that hosts my websites/domains).

I should have added that those details are not working when I run the forum on my home PC.

Hello.

I've got it sorted.

I had to install an email component on the computer - in this case ASPMail (smtpsvg) and it all works fine.
