Now I'm back where I started 24 hours ago "server not responding" I delated my.ini a number of times & re installed myslq & phpmyadmin to no avail. Yes I have made the config file config.inc.php & put it in the htdocs/phpmyadmin file. 'root' ' cookie' 'blowfish" XXXx 192.168.X.XXx\phpmyadmin all filled in correctly.

Windows ME is part of your MySQL problem. Because you cannot run anything as service mode in ME (as far as I know) it becomes a pain for MySQL to run because it always wants to run in service mode.

If you have the file "winmysqladmin.exe" in the mysql/bin folder, try running that.

No winmysqladmin, just mysqld.exe

He is right, I bet this could be your problem. What version of MySQL are you using?

I also have a server set up on ME and I now remember the new version of MySQL would not work with it. I had to use the 4.0.24 MySQL... It is the same version on the MySQL tutorial at Abyssunderground...

I am able to use PHP 5.2 and phpmyadmin 2.9.1.1 but have to use those with 4.0.24 MySQL...

trotter,
Are you sure it is not something like 4.027 that you have working on ME in NY?

Because I know, I have tried about 20 different times to make a 5 version of MySQL work on my ME and never had any luck at all with it.

The 4.0.24 is what I am using now for the time being. The little ME box keeps puttering along... I am planing on moving the server to another box soon! Either XP or to a Linux distro, like SuSE, but have not quite decided yet.

If you get a 5 version working on that ME, please let me know!
