Hello,

TRUSTpunk, you have great tutorials on your site *but* the software you've graciously provided a mirror to, need to be updated :(

Update the software on your mirror and you'll save the world. Good luck!

I try checking the links every now and then , I will do that ASAP !

Edit: The links to MySQL I have provided are still up to date
MySQL version 5.0 is not recommended for commercial use
yet but just for testing , they recommend version 4.X as stated

You have to install MySQL and phpMyAdmin to
get this working than you have to browse to the
phpbb2 directory and fill out a small install form.

Read my MySQL -> phpMyAdmin -> phpBB Tutorials
and then try reinstalling phpBB , Hope this helps!

If you think thats not enough , do the following , uninstall MySQL and
delete the mysql folder if its still their after you uninstalled it.
"REBOOT YOUR MACHINE"

"AFTER YOU REBOOT"
Delete your Scripts folder that holds the phpMyAdmin php program , after you
have done that , uninstall PHP and reinstall every thing using my tutorials.
"PHP , MYSQL , PHPBB and, PHPMYADMIN"

Abyss Web Server: Tutorials
http://os17fan.cjb.net

My tutorials work for everyone and if I was to
go on your messenger and do a remote admin
on you , I would show you that they do work 8)

I don't see why you need to go back to anything. Just follow the directions. Enter all your info, hit start install, and it should say something. What does it say?

EDIT - To fix this error, you have to go into phpMyAdmin then create a new database called "phpbb2data" since the install doesn't create it automatically.

Yo, when users register they get an error about the e-mail service. The problem seems to be that the hotPOP service you recommended sucks. Any free alternatives? Ive tried using msn's smpt, but it uses some encrypted shit. Also, i have a verizon e-mail account.... anyone know if that has smtp?

What option did you choose when you first signed up for hotpop ? Your not
supposed to choose mail forwarding , you need the other option instead.

ok...
I tried installing MySQL and phpMyAdmin, then tried installing phpbb2. It is late...and I am going to bed. Could anyone please look at the problem I have when installing phpbb2? I know its probably something simple...but I really need some sleep...

From what I can understand from this PHP error is that phpBB was unable to
connect to the MySQL server because the database probably doesn't exist.

Did you create the phpBB database in phpMyAdmin ?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you did all these things then all I can say is to try my tutorials and see if
that helps you out , I provide some nice examples and screenshots. lateR!

Yea, I did. Right now when I go to MyAdmin and click on databases, I see the following databases:

mysql
phpbb2data
test

The top of the page says:

Server: localhost

Now when I click on phpbb2data, I get to this screen:

No tables found in database.

Create new table on database phpbb2data: (then the name and field text boxes)

Also, when I look at the mysql database through MyAdmin, I see that it has 6 tables inside it:

Columns_priv
db
func
host
tables_priv
user

I have to head out now...I hope this helps you guys help me :) . Thanks alot everyone.

The reason why phpbb2data has no tables is because phpBB was unable to
create them because MySQL didn't see the correct database or that phpBB
was unable to connect to the MySQL server because a typo in the form.

Note: It would help if you could post a setup page of your phpBB
so we can see what information you are putting , Thank You!

Basic Configuration
Default board language: English
Database Type: MySQL 4.x
Choose your installation method: Install
Database Configuration
Database Server Hostname / DSN: X.no-ip.com //I have aol cable so I use no-ip to have a static ip
Your Database Name: phpbb2data
Database Username: admin
Database Password: (blank) //When I was looking at the config file of the phpMyAdmin, it was blank under the password field (""). So I left it blank here.
Prefix for tables in database: phpbb_
Admin Configuration
Admin Email Address: (my email address)
Domain Name: X.no-ip.com //again, because I have a dynamic ip because of aol cable
Server Port: 8080
Script path: /phpbb2/
Administrator Username: (my username)
Administrator Password: (password)
Administrator Password [ Confirm ]: (password)

I have a feeling there is a problem with the database server hostname. When I go to my site I get the server, but because there is no index page yet, i get a page error.

ok...I have more problems. It might be a php problem...

I am having the same problem as a few people on this thread. When I try to login incorrectly, I get the wrong password/username combinations screen. When I enter it correctly, I get one of those "The page cannot be displayed" pages. Then if you go back and click "profile", it says you are logged in and goes to your profile page.

also

I unfortunately have aol cable. Abyss won't send out a mass email, even when I add the "smtp.aol.com" info. Anyone know how to fix this? Maybe if I make up a yahoo account?

You can't connect to localhost becuase your MySQL permissions arn't setup properly (If im not mistaken). I can't give you MySQL commands off the top of my head, but I saw a tutorial on how to stop the error from hapening.
(Im talking about the client dosn't support authintication protocol one). Those other errors look like they happened becuase it couldn't connect. If I find the tutorial ill edit this post with the link.

Hi, Rob!
You don't need to populate the db (phpbb does that itself wehen you run the install). All you do is create a nemed database, and that's it!

I seem to be getting a different error msg once i click "start instal"

An error has occurred during installation
The PHP configuration on your server doesn't support the database type that you chose

I don't know why its saying that cause i followed the guide from aprelium. Any ideas what it could be?

I'm running phpbb2, mysql 4.1, php5.0
