Also, on top of copying php_mysql.dll, I also had to copy libmysql.dll to the php directory, out of the php.zip. Hope this helps someone else in the future.
Thanks. you guys are great. |

I'm not quite sure what this means, I have the current version of MySQL. I also have the correct password. Does anyone here know what this means? |

Thanks to all who have contributed to this thread, but AAAARRGGGHHH
Everything installed perfectly - I thought, but all I get from script is
"No input file specified."
To make matters worse, an earlier poster had the same problem - then solved it himself WITHOUT SAYING HOW!
Can anyone help with this one? I seem to have run out of things to try! |

taking a hint from my mysterious friend, I seem to have solved this for myself, so for anyone else with this problem,
comment out the line in php.ini which reads:
doc_root ="whatever"
in my file this is line #437
Hope this helps :) |

I followed the tutorial but used phpMyAdmin 2.6.0-pl3 and everything was fine until I went to secure Mysql 4.1 via phpMyAdmin.
I set permissions: password: for Mysql and was booted out of phpMyAdmin as expected, I then changed the config to include the password.
MySQL said:

And it keeps saying the same thing.
I set the authentication to http to see if it liked it, it did'nt and I kept getting error 401
phpMyAdmin documentation said mysqli was the reccomended extention so, I changed config to reflect this and it still gets the hump:
cannot load mysqli extension,
please check PHP Configuration
Documentation
and I tried again by changing the host to 127.0.0.1
no joy
what have I missed?
If I am being dumb and/or there is a post out there I've missed please let me know.
Thanks - total novice who is amazed at how far I've got. _________________ need free content feeds plz - not that i'm not looking... |

Hi
I did everything said in the guide but when I try to browse to phpmyadmin I get the following message:
#1045 - Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO)
I did change the root password for mysql and I also set it to localhost access only.
When browsing to localhost/phpmyadmin I get the same message :(
Thanks |

I just wanted to post and say that this tutorial was great. I followed it step by step and everything worked perfect. I also followed the mySQL tutorial along with this and both worked fine for me... _________________ -NoName

I am about to go thru the tutorial (just done your MySQL one - excellent). I was wondering why not use the latest version of phpMyAdmin?
I am running PHP 5.0.3....
I guess I could attempt to install the latest version..How different will the installation process be, compared to your tutorial?
Thanks. _________________ http://fnar.sytes.net <<--- Powered by Abyss :D |

MySQL 4.1.8 is the last one to include winmysqladmin.exe. Get it here...
http://downloads.mysql.com/archives.php?p=mysql-4.1&v=4.1.8
Your screenshot has nothing to do with the above mentioned. You need to
configure PHP to load php_mysql.dll, which is only included in the zip package
of PHP. In your php.ini file, uncomment the line that says this...
Code: | ;extension=php_mysql.dll |
|

Do you have php_mysql.dll in your ext folder?
If you do, the easy way is to copy & paste it into the main folder of php.
See if that works. |

You downloaded the PHP installer.
You need to download the PHP zip package.
Then, take php_mysql.dll out of the ext folder and put it into the PHP folder. |

If you have php_mysql.dll, then it seems your php.ini file is not setup correctly.
If you want, you can email it to me so I can look at it.
Or PM me the acount to look at. |

In your php.ini file, change... Code: | ;extension=php_mysql.dll |
to... Code: | extension=php_mysql.dll |
That is the only thing I changed.

Hi,
I installed Abyss Web Server X1 (latest release), ActivePerl, PHP, MySQL and phpMyAdmin. I didn't have any problem until I tried to access phpMyAdmin at
http://localhost/phpMyAdmin
I got this error message:
Welcome to phpMyAdmin 2.6.1
phpMyAdmin tried to connect to the MySQL server, and the server rejected the connection. You should check the host, username and password in config.inc.php and make sure that they correspond to the information given by the administrator of the MySQL server.
Error
MySQL said: Documentation
#1251 - Client does not support authentication protocol requested by server; consider upgrading MySQL client
When I setup MySQL for the first time, I entered that same password into the config file for phpMyAdmin. Auth type is set to "config".
I have my absolute URI set as: http://localhost/phpMyAdmin
I don't know why I'm getting this error. Any suggestions? |

Wow. Thanks very much for this information. That was quick. :)
One question though: I understand how to reset the password to the old-style password as per the instructions on that page, but I don't know how to "Upgrade all client programs to use a 4.1.1 or newer client library" as it says there.
I'm not 100% sure what they mean. Pardon my ignorance, but what exactly do they mean by "client programs"? I think I am using the most recent version of MySQL. I'll double-check, but I could've sworn I downloaded the most recent version. If you have any helpful advice, I could really use it.
Thanks again.
P.S. I checked and I'm using phpMyAdmin 2.6.1, which is supposedly compatible with the version of MySQL I'm using. Maybe the problem is the new MySQL installer package that I used, which is on this page under Windows Binaries:

I'm not exactly sure what they mean by upgrading the client program unless they mean upgrading your windows. Which Windows version were you installing on? The reason I think that is because I just recently set up a dual boot system. My very first attempt at installing exactly what you did yielded a multitude of problems because I was installing on Win98SE which does not really like any server program. Took me 4 days to get the bugs worked out and everything working properly and I didn't tinker beyond that point. I created the dual boot system with WinXP and installed perl, php, abyss, phpmyadmin and didn't encounter that error this time. So other than that I'm not really sure. Sorry, wish I had a better answer. |

I'm using Windows XP Home with all the latest service packs installed. I'm using Mozilla Firefox (Firefox RULES!) as my browser instead of IE, so that could also be a factor. I don't think so, but I'm just guessing here, so... lol
I'm not 100% sure, but I think they're referring to any programs that I might be using in conjunction with MySQL 4.1.1—like phpMyAdmin, etc... when they say "client programs". Anything you might be installing on the server for use with MySQL. That seems logical to me.
Back to the ol' drawing board. *sigh* |

If you get the following error Quote: | #1251 - Client does not support authentication protocol requested by server; consider upgrading MySQL client | but you already have the latest version of MySQL (4.1.10), you really do have the latest client.
What I've found to solve this problem is to upgrade PHP from 4.3.10 to 5.0.3.
Good luck! _________________ Victor B. Gonzalez

erix920,
The fact the MySQL red light is shown has nothing to do with PHP. It seems that you should reinstall MySQL or fix the problem that causes it to not being running correctly. _________________ Support Team

Tiffer,
MySQLAdmin isn't required to have MySQL run. When installing MySQL, it is better to configure it as a service. That way it will be started on boot time and remain available in the background as a service. _________________ Support Team

Hi,
I need to run the abyss server on port 13375 instead of 80, so the url of phpMyAdmin is http://localhost:13375/phpMyAdmin/ in my case. Sry, if this problem was already solved somewhere on these pages, but on the index of phpMyAdmin none of the links work, and no images are being displayed because they are all linked to http://localhost/phpMyAdmin/.
The "Show MySQL runtime information" link e.g. points to:
http://localhost/phpMyAdmin/server_status.php?lang=en-iso-8859-1&server=1
but should point to:
http://localhost:13375/phpMyAdmin/server_status.php?lang=en-iso-8859-1&server=1
or even better to:
http://www.mydomain.com:13375/phpMyAdmin/server_status.php?lang=en-iso-8859-1&server=1
What do I have to do, to make phpMyAdmin always connect to port 13375?
Thx for your help,
TB2
