UPDATE: Ok the search has ended its beta phase, its a smashing success (we are getting a lot of hits per day, around 100-300 daily) BUT We need sites to be indexed. Just an observation, you seem to be hosting www.directwebmaster.com but your not hosting directwebmasters.com ie: without the www.

If your using abyss x1 you should follow http://www.abyssunderground.co.uk/vhcproject.php

or Abyss X2 just add to your host table directwebmasters.com and "Copy Configuration From" www.directwebmasters.com

Yes i was having some problems using zoneedit and never got directwebmasters.com working, www.directwebmasters.com is the same as directwebmasters.com as it leads to my numeric IP address.

As a side note i have implimented the multi domain script, in the navbar on the left of the main page, look at the link ;)

Ok but maybe you did that kinda backwards, what domain name do you have on your Abyss host panel ? with or without the www. should be without the www. and then if needed only add www. as a virtual host, I maybe wrong, but thats how I see it for Abyss X1

On Abyss use *website.com instead of www.website.com or *.website.com, this fixes the problem :-)

You can add extra domain names to the same VHOST, just go to "configure host/general" and you can add them there.

BETA PHASE OVER! Yes the beta phase has been completed, the search is a smashing success with 100-300 hits daily. The only problem is we are short on indexed sites (we have 13 :/)

ALSO!

We have selected a name! The new name is "DW search" thanks to madman for the name :D

hc2995,

Search Google for "PHP Captcha". A simple implementation is in http://captchas.net/sample/php/ .

Image Security is pretty easy, but the problem is that if a spammer is smart,
they can try the Hidden fields of a form and get it right. I recommend using a
session instead. Sessions are hidden I believe.

Spyder looks like a great way to start a link directory...

I submitted my site and within 15min it was indexed....

Thanks.... The site looks promising. Will you be adding a logo for DW Search like google does?

URGENT!
We have moved the contents of the search engine to the root directory (since our other projects have gone "Belly Up") We will now ONLY be hosting the search engine! IF YOU HAVE PLACED A LOGO ON YOUR SITE, RECONFIGURE THE URL (remove the "/search/" part from the end)

AS OF NOW YOU CAN REACH THE SEARCH ENGINE AT http://www.searchdw.com

Other:
In other news we are looking for a new domain name. If you are interested in this and would like to donate the funds for the domain (as we have not yet collected any money from donations) PM me.

Planned update:
We are planning to add an automatic monthly newsletter to help everyone that signs up keep informed on latest news about the search engine (incase they cant look on this topic)

Wishing you very merry Christmas,
Hc2995 and the DW search team!

Your Input Required!

Marty has agreed to help us with a domain name, the problem is we do not know what domain to register! So we are asking you, the visitor, to help us think up a new domain. If you have a name to suggest, PM me or post here.

Other:

we have added forums! They can be found at: http://www.directwebmasters.com/forums/ or by clicking "Forums" in the footer of the site

NEED SITES! We need sites so that our searchers can get more results, so if you want a site added, post its links here. no description is required (we can use the description provided by the sites meta tags)

NOTICE! We allow adult sites (legal of course) but do not post links to the here, rather, PM me with those links (so i can make sure to mark the site as adult)

Outage Report:

On January 28 2007, our primary HDD failed, as a result our raid system flipped over to the Linux HDD (which is considerably smaller than our master HDD) In effect, the site went off line for about 7 hours, the site has been restored and is not operating as normal.

Sounds like your MySQL administrator doesnt know how to use databases. Backups should work if you just copy the MySQL folder.
