If someone know that your htdocs contains a file called x.txt for example, he can view it even if the directory listing is disabled. He can simply type in his browser http://<your machine>/x.txt .
If you don't want people to see a file, just do not put in your htdocs directory. In the future version 1.1, you will be able to setup access with password on files and directorires, so people won't get certain files unless they know the password.

I just do not understand much of anything about a web server. I am a disabled senior. I am trying to learn what I can to pass the time until (The Big Dirt Nap). I have installed the programing and read every page of instrutions. What I want to do is write a simple web page with a couple of pictures and host it from my computer. I have a DSL connection and I don't sleep much. The questions is HOW? I know I am ignorant in this area. I can not find my IP number. I kind of know what to do but don't know where to get started. I use Verison. Can anyone help an old man?
Thanky

First of all, you'll have to design your page and put it (as well as the photos and other required files) in the htdocs sub-directory (you'll find it in the installation directory of Abyss Web Server - typically c:\Program Files\Abyss Web Server).
Second, you must get a DNS name using a free DNS provider. The best is to read http://www.dslwebserver.com/main/DNS.html .

If you need help, you can send us your questions to support@aprelium.com .

Happy serving :D
