is there any easy way to count visitors?

i see on alott of sites people have "number of visitors currently on site" and stuff like that, is there a relatively easy way to do that? (with or without PHP)

what i meant was, is there an easy way to show on your site the current number of visitors that are currently accessing any portion of the site. on the main page of the forum is an example of what im looking for:

There are currently 7 users on the site
There are currently 4 users logged in
There are 3175 registered users


i made those numbers up, but they illustrate my point, thanks again for replying, but none of those sites had what i wanted, and most of them were not freeware anyway.

script kiddies scoff at my newbie-ness i just learned the basics of php two days ago.

To do so, you should have a registration system and a session manager that will track users on your web site. No web server comes with such features by default. You should use a script to do that. That's the only way.
