I've searched far and wide for a php chat room alternative but it seems the best script I've ever managed to find is written in ASP. Well, I've tried long and hard in trying to install it onto Abyss 1.14 (not the beta or update 1) using AHTML 0.00.0063... But repeatedly failed in getting it to work...

I ultimately got fed up with the problematic install process and wrote on their forums about my dilemma... They wrote back and said Abyss and AHTML is not supported... My question is, could this true?

I ask because they've also mentioned they never tried it but in theory it was created for IIS... I forgot what they mentioned about ASP exactly...

I do not need help installing this script but if by any chance any of you ASP gurus take a look at it and decide to try it out let me know how things go. If you manage to install it and get it to work I would really like to see a quick guide on it.

Also a new AHTML update is out "AHTML Version 1.00.0003" you can go check it out at http://www.selisoft.com/en/download/index.html

PS. What makes the script so hot is you never hear the annoying click sounds IE makes at all and the page magically updates (it doesn't refresh, click)...

PSS. Let me know if you get this to work or know of another application which is the same in that aspect, thanks ;)

The problem comes from ActiveHTML and not from Abyss. ActiveHTML is a subset of Microsoft's ASP that works on IIS. That's why there are incompatibilites when using scripts that need the 1% features not supported by ActiveHTML.

I cant believe I forgot to mention the ASP chat script. Its called Conquer Chat and you can see and learn more about it at http://www.theill.com/asp/conquerchat.asp

It definitely is one the hottest scripts out there. I can not find a php or perl script alternative anywere near it. I just can't believe it doesn't work on Abyss with AHTML...

This is probably off topic but I thought perhaps an Abyss ASP guru might be able to check it out and learn something/teach something about it.

I am not asking for help but am interested in this ASP chat script as I could not find any better so far...

Seems like this script have some dependencies towards IIS, like those definitions in the global.asa (IIS thing)... the definitions there seems to hold some defined COM objects in memory.
Which means you can't use this script with Abyss... without major rewriting.

Okies, on another machine, I searched on http://www.hotscripts.com/ASP/Scripts_and_Components/Chat_Scripts/
and have come up with the following script:

Thanks Dave but too many scripts (click) noise/refresh in order to update... My point about Conquer Chat is it doesn't click/refresh and if we were in a conversation with it, it updates immediately unlike those which have to refresh...

The bad things about chat scripts which have to be refreshed to update is if you have a chat room with 10 or plus people all trying to talk to one another one refresh can suddenly lead to an appearance of 10 plus lines of conversation...

Conquer Chat updates so quick without refreshing it's like magic... It just updates and you see everyones update come in one by one... With chat scripts that have to refresh to update it can quickly become annoying, not to mention the clicking IE turns on by dafualt...

Thanks though Dave its the thought thats counts :) I dont think theirs any chat scripts out which work like Conquer Chat... I tried so many and most work exactly with submit/refresh...

Thanks though :)

Hey u guys, dunno if this works with abyss or not, (aint tried it yet!) but its worth a try, its a cool flash/ASP based chat, all it needs i think is obviously ASP/flash support and a virtually directory to itself. www.pipey.com
