i would like to know if there is a way of customising the style of the default page where the files and folders are listed?

You'll need to use a script to do that. One suggested script is http://16.sytes.net/php-scripts/un-sorted%20php/AutoIndex.php.zip (suggested in a previous discussion at http://www.aprelium.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=957). But you can find other similar ones.

i cant seem to make it work. after i have modified the setting where do i put it? what do i do? :x stupid unfinished read me file

Edit the script and change some of its variables. Then save it as index.php and put copies of it in all the directories where fancy directory listing is needed. Check also that PHP support is installed in Abyss (http://www.aprelium.com/abyssws/php.html).

Do you have another site or know other location where I can get that "AutoIndex.PHP.zip" file? It seem like the location of that file is no longer exist or available.

Its normally up most of the time so you should be able to get it.
