This is pretty mundane question, but how do you get the Abyss Icon to show up in the system tray? It is not showing up for some unknown reason to me.

If you installed Abyss Web Server as a Windows service, you will not see it in the system tray.

The other possible reason is that you configured your system tray to hide it automatically.

Go to the task bar properties > Notification area

Then check your hiding configuration.

Thanks, I have it installed as a service. That explains it.

Love this webserver!

Why does it not appear if Abyss is installed as a service? I also run VNC as a service and that generates a tray icon.

Regards
Chris

This is how services should behave (they are hidden from users).

That is possible to write a service which "interacts with the desktop" (this is how Microsoft calls that). But this was no more recommended a few years ago and today Microsoft is explicitly discouraging developers from doing so as that feature has been changed in Vista: a service can still interact with the desktop, but it's a virtual desktop and not the logged user's desktop. So from now on, a service should remain in the background and run with no interactive user input/output.

To see if it is running in that mode or not, you can open the Windows
Control Panel, select Administrative Tools, and open Services. You'll see there Abyss Web Server in the listing and can determine if it is already running or not.

If Abyss Web Server is running as a service, you can still control it
locally or from any other computer by typing the console URL in your
favorite browser. For example, on the computer where it is installed, open you browser and type in the address bar http://127.0.0.1:9999 .
